So much love and gratitude to my dear friend, and San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto for this truly amazing gift, I Have a Dream: Inaugural Poems... for a New Generation, an anthology featuring the work of 111 youth, ages 6 to 16, sponsored by the San Mateo County Arts Commission. I especially enjoyed the foreword by one of the most passionate arts champions I know, Robin Rodricks! Thank you Aileen, for this truly thoughtful gift and for all your efforts to use your voice and platform to elevate the arts in San Mateo County! Reading through these poems, I am truly inspired by these talented young poets and wonder who among them will be the next Amanda gorman! The California State Library is sponsoring FREE preservation needs assessments for cultural and historical collections (museums, libraries, archives and historical societies, etc.) in select California regions, including San Mateo County. The assessments will help organizations identify risks to their collections and develop achievable preservation strategies, including environmental management, exhibit practices, digital collections policy development and disaster/emergency preparedness plans. Participating organizations will have the services of an experienced consultant and receive a comprehensive report that can be used in grants and other funding applications. For more information, you can go to https://www.library.ca.gov/preservation-assessments or e-mail me with any questions.

You are invited to participate in Californians for the Arts’ South Bay Area Regional Conversation (San Mateo and Santa Clara counties) hosted by CALIFORNIANS FOR THE ARTS. This event will take place on Monday, August 10 at 11am via Zoom in partnership with SV Creates, the City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs, and San José Arts Advocates. There is great uncertainty in our arts & culture field about how and when to reopen safely and effectively and how we as a sector can... adapt. This conversation will include updates on state and federal advocacy with special guests. You will have a chance to share ideas, questions, and concerns with the Californians for the Arts team, and most importantly each other as the situation continues to evolve. Hearing from one and other is vital as we strategize best practices and the future of our industry in the age of COVID-19. You can register and find more information about the event on the CFTA website: https://www.californiansforthearts.org/a/advocacy-resources We hope to see you on Monday, August 10 at 11am!
