Zoom at noon this Friday. Please message me if you would like to join in the meeting. I can send you the sign in. Here is our speaker Sharon Jackson’s bio: Born and raised in Compton California, my father a Minister and my mother a seamstress. I migrated to the bay area in the mid seventies after graduation from high school. Married at the age of 20, and had 2 daughters. Deciding to say home and raise my girls, I finished my education once my youngest daughter was in high sc...hool, with my degree in Psychology. During this time I spent many hours volunteering in the community and at both of my daughters' schools. This led to my work with children with special needs in 1996. I became a behavior therapist working with these wonderful babies on the spectrum. In 2001, I created a mentor and tutoring program at Piedmont Hills high school where my eldest daughter was attending. By 2011, I decided to start my own non-profit in my work with at risk (promise) youth as I began to spend more time at the high school with my daughters and saw a need for support for the students and their parents as well. My days were filled with my autistic babies and ended with my at promise babies. I soon created a mentoring program for my African American males and partnered with the school district, and a couple of local fraternities to provide services for these young men. Soon after I created a team of advocates which up until the recent pandemic met with the school district superintendent monthly. In the midst of all of this I am now spending more time with my community outreach providing food and other services to the community while providing community service hours for youth ranging from ages 2 years to 40 something. Yes, I said 2 years old! In my role as an advocate for the youth, I am called to address many issues in our community. In my work, I have received several community service awards, and advocate to the youth awards amongst others. I could go on and on but I am making myself tired at this point. I appreciate your having me as one of your speakers as you try to understand the plight of the African American Community. I will probably touch on : Plight of African American in this country Thoughts of the African American woman/mom What it takes to raise a child in a healthy environment My thoughts on meaning of the Black Lives Matter movement. Are our children really safe?

Zoom at Noon Rotary Meeting. Friday 8/21/2020 Sounds like an interesting story. Our guest speaker will be Lorie M Cinco ... Our speaker was born on Oct. 24, 1964 at Kaiser Hospital in Oak- land. Within a few days of her birth she was adopted by a loving family that raised and nurtured her. In 1992 she began to look for her bio- logical parents with no help from the internet or hired persons. On Oct. 15, 1992, nine days before her 28th birthday, mother and daughter met for the first time. It was emotion- al, to say the least. Since then they have been like best friends and the time lost between them a distant memory. This is her/their story.

Zoom at Noon on Friday From member Ken McLaughlin: This Friday the Zoom meeting will be very unique as our speaker will be coming to us from Kauai, Hawaii. Our speaker, Lauren Havlick, will be with us at 9:00 am HST in order to be at our noon meeting. Kit and I heard her presentation on "Plastic Free Living" when we attended the Hanalei Bay club's Zoom meeting last week. I thought that it would be fun to take advantage of Zoom and get a speaker that wouldn't otherwise be able to join us at an in-person meeting. It is amazing how prevalent plastic is in our daily lives in ways we can't imagine. Plan on joining us to hear a terrific presentation and to see your club friends.

The presentation includes two videos of duets he has performed. One is from the current shelter-in-place time and the other is a very complicated duet of O Holy N...ight where the pair play 23 bells. John Belz graduated in 1979 from VA Tech and in three weeks married and moved to the Bay Area. He designed main- frame CPUs for Amdahl Corporation. He worked his way up to VP of Engi- neering and then also at VERITAS Software and Symantec before retir- ing in 2008. He and his wife, Martha, have two children who are married and one granddaughter. Foothill Community Presbyterian Church has been a big part of their life and they have both played in the Hand Bell choir for over 30 years. John started his musical career learning piano at five from his mother who went on to teach many students. He played nu- merous instruments in the school bands and really enjoys the hand bells.
