Today we recognized the retirement of Sergeant Tony Perry, a 34-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office. Sergeant Perry was presented with a plaque honoring his dedicated years of service. He finished his career working as the Supervisor for the Coroner's Office. During his time at the Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Perry received numerous commendations from allied agencies and citizens for his actions and professionalism during critical incidents. As a supervisor he was always supportive, approachable, and knowledgeable. Although we are sad to have Sergeant Perry leave, we wish him all the best in retirement. We are sad to announce the passing of Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteer Patrol (SAVP) member, Richard "Dick" Smith. Dick was a dedicated member of the SAVP program out of the Sheriff's Coast Station for the past 6 years. He passed away on January 24th after a short battle with Leukemia. Dick had a great sense of humor, a friendly and outgoing personality and his care for others was evident in everything he did. Whether he was out patrolling in the community, helping with an event..., or showing up with a box of Dolly's Donuts for his fellow SAVPs, he always seized opportunities to help and put a smile on everyone's face. He was kind and generous, and we were lucky to have him as a member of the Sheriff's Office family. We are grateful for the time we had getting to know Dick, and the tremendous work that he did in San Luis Obispo County. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they mourn the loss of a great man. See more
