This is part 2 of our brief introduction to skiing technique check out our previous post a week ago if you missed it. 4 The basic athletic stance allows balanced, fast reactions in multiple directions. That position is essential to stay in the driving seat over your skis. Adopt these elements of a basic athletic stance with weight evenly distributed laterally and fore/aft on both feet: Shin and spine at similar angles... Elbows forward of the torso Eyes focused ahead 5 Try directing pressure from foot to foot it will enable you to transfer weight side to side from one foot to the other. It’s a pretty straight-forward exercise that looks like this: Step from one foot to the other (with minimal movement in the torso) Flex ankle (dorsiflexion) of the weighted foot Lift inside foot/knee up toward skier’s torso Explore varying rates 6 Adjust the edge angles of the skis by tipping the legs. Maintaining the upper body stable and only move the lower body. Here’s how it’s done: Symmetrically tip boot cuffs side to side keeping the lower legs parallel. Use a wall or doorway to demonstrate feet, knee, hip inclination and angulation Tipping movements should originate in the feet and lower legs. Explore varying rates of tipping. Who wants more tips on edging and angulation next time?

As events are slowly recovering, SkyTechSport-Grelich is trying not to miss any interesting or important one. But this time, it’s really special: we became part of THE TOUR DE FRANCE!! This was the second occasion that Nice has held the start of the tour, or the Grand Départ, and the entire city has been celebrating We built up our booth at the beautiful fan park on the Promenade du Paillon. The event had a lot to offer to visitors in spite of all the security measures... to limit the number of people and ensure social distancing including the introduction of a live-tracking platform showcasing key race data and an augmented reality app (!!!) in order to encourage people to watch the race from home. Those who chose to come in person found out that security measures were taken very seriously: masks were compulsory for anyone, there was a lot of police, you could see helicopters cruising over the city, and the streets where the starts actually took place were all fenced-in to make sure none of them gets ill. Guests could follow the tour on the big screen, try a whole range of bikes on the test track, enjoy jazz, street art and a traditional themed art exhibition. But an opportunity to race down snow-white slopes came as a shock to many, always a pleasant one :) Department Cote d’Azure have been in love with our simulator for a while, and the fact that the machine can provide a 100% safe interactive experience was also the reason to invite us. Here’s what our guests said: Excellent! Amazing! You must try it. It’s perfect, especially for those like me, who aren’t great skiers. It’s so cool! It really feels like skiing! See more

That first glance at a mountain you are about to conquer, that speed that stops all the mind chatter and focuses you in the present moment, that sharp turn that allows you to brush fresh snow with your fingertips as you glide But how do you get to the level of a confident skier if you’ve never tried it before? Well, thanks to the ski simulator, training off-season and/or indoors has become a piece of cake. Not the physical effort part of course but the availability of re...alism of skiing. You can either get a skiing simulator for yourself or visit a place that has one and set up routine visits (comment if you need help finding a convenient location). So, if this is your first time skiing or even putting on a skiing gear, bear no fear, we’ll hook you up with the basics in no time 1 Skiing involves a great variety of joint rotation, some flexibility, and strong body motion. Stamina and strength will build up in time if you’re consistent with your practices, so don’t worry about that part. But understand that this is a full physical workout. 2 If you have any preexisting conditions, get a greenlight from your physician first. Otherwise, get your sweat suit on, we’re about to start the downhill dive. 3Choose skiing gear appropriately When getting your first pair of skiing boots, make sure that it fits, and boots are buckled properly. Boots should fit snug and make contact with the entire foot and ankle. A person’s first experience wearing ski boots will feel awkward, as the boots will limit the range of motion in the ankle joint. Exercises to develop mobility and comfort in ski boots: Walking in ski boots to develop range of motion in the ankle joint Gentle ankle flexes Deep knee bends (squats) Rocking fore/aft Hops Stay tuned, in the next part, we’ll tell about the basic athletic stance! What was the hardest thing when you tried skiing first (or snowboarding we’ll cover it later, too)?

Watch a PSIA-AASI teach how to blend specific edge angles with weight shifting in skiing! A couple of years ago, we partnered with Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors to create the first ever official manual for simulator-based training. It covers all aspects of simulator-to-snow development and allows ski and snowboard instructors teach off slope, generate excitement for the sport and get great cross-train exercise at the same time.

How old should you be to ski on SkyTechSport simulator? On the slopes, we often see little kids in ski boots that almost seem bigger than themselves. Many mountains offer ski training programs for children as young as 3 or even 2.5. We would say that simulator-based training is possible from around 5-6 years old. Before this age, it’s very unlikely they will master the carving technique.... They are fully ready to listen to instructors and follow their guidance. They will easily transfer skills onto snow (easier than most adults!) Incorporating learning on the simulator is so much more efficient with kids! They don’t get cold or uncomfortable because of unusual clothes. And the virtual races make it cooler than a video game no need for any other motivation When training kids, we place simulator’s skis closer to each other it only takes a minute right before the session. Everything else about the simulator is just as good for kids as it is for adults. See more

For ski lovers, choosing their outfits is almost as fun as their time on the slopes. Serious, solid colors (black, navy blue, burgundy, forest green) would suggest you're all about skiing, whiles fashionistas often keep an eye out for metallics and prints (even animal print). Neons have become quite popular, too. Vibrant colours in general can enhance your mood, help being quickly spotted by your friends if you ski together, and even avoid an accident: a flash of colour appea...ring in front or in the peripheral vision of others increases the chance they'll notice you in time. Some try to pick a jacket that they could wear off the slopes, too. Keep in mind apres-skis with today’s advanced sports fashion, it’s perfectly possible to find a flattering fits and great designs. Do you like bright colors for or do you prefer to stay more classic? This amazing photo is taken by @mikel_fk

Ski season is slowly opening up in the southern hemisphere. Skiers and snowboarders of North America and Europe were so unlucky this spring, when unprecedented events cut the season drastically short. In the Southern Hemisphere, however, resorts have been hunkered down in their off-season, preparing for winter. But if you are ready to travel anywhere for snow remember that most countries still have not opened their borders for foreigners AUSTRALIA has more ski area...s open than any other southern hemisphere nation. Loosening of lockdown and great snowy images from pre-season snowfalls make it look tempting, but social distancing, hygiene requirements, face masks and advance online ticket purchase are among the measures required. Advance lift ticket sales have crashed ticket booking sites there in recent days as tens of thousands of people have tried to buy lift passes. It joins the little southern African ski area of Afriski in LESOTHO and Mt Hutt in NEW ZEALAND. The country just shifted its nationwide travel ban to ease restrictions and many of resorts here are still expecting to open in late June. The other three southern hemisphere ski nations, ARGENTINA, CHILE and SOUTH AFRICA, remain in lockdown with no clarity on when or if they'll be able to open this winter. (Argentina has one of the strictest quarantines on the planet right now!) In Portillo, Valle Nevado, La Parva and Cerro Catedral, you’ll find some of the finest skiing in the world, but most probably not before September 1. This beautiful photo was taken by @yves.garneau

Re-Ski and SkyTechSport united to help kids with cerebral palsy, ASD, genetic and autoimmune diseases, and introduced a special supporter that made ski training possible even for students who don’t walk. Simulator-based training improves balance, legs and core strength, weight transfer training, all the skills necessary for walking. Our lessons also boost concentration span, memory and vocabulary. Kids work face-to-face with their instructor all the time. The instru...ctors have a huge experience of working with special kids, they are 100% aware of the condition of every trainee. Every time, they develop an individual approach for each student. We adjust equipment individually for every student to ensure full safety. The machine will not let a person fall or experience excessive loads. Friendly environment and privacy help avoid any distracting discomfort. Most importantly, we teach kids while playing with them. Simulators and their virtual slopes are just made for making all of it a thrilling game. Full video will be available on YouTube! See more

We always work to help people achieve their dreams. For some, we are making it possible to ski and snowboard at any time of the year, from any location. For others, we’re blazing the trail to this sport. Not only the sport sometimes, but even the chance to operate their legs and body properly. It’s an amazing feeling when you realize you just made it possible for your client to experience the pleasure of speed and movement that’s so ordinary for most of us, yet so unattaina...ble for some. How did we manage to do it? New project coming out soon! Keep an eye out! See more

A few posts ago we asked when was the first time you skied. But do you remember the time you did your first jump? That moment when your skies or snowboard took off from the ground for that one second Did you know Olympic ski jumping athletes travel more than 300 feet in the air, at about 60 miles per hour? The technique of a ski jump is not as simple as it seems. There are different types of jumps, you have to know the right moment to jump and the right movements to get the most of the upward momentum. It’s also tricky to keep the right position while in the air. And then the landing Would anyone want to learn how to jump next season? Do you want to know more about it? TEACHING SNOWBOARD STANCE ON THE SIMULATOR Stance is by definition something static. But we don’t stay static we move So we have a dynamic balance. The neutral athletic snowboard stance is when we have even weight on both feet: Our head’s over our shoulders, our shoulders are over our knees, ... our knees right over our toes. Hands are out to the side, that way we have them out for balancing. From there, we can gently move our centre of mass and our weight out over our toes or out over our heels That way we can gently find that neutral balanced position So here’s the algorithm how we teach this dynamic balance: 1First, we teach the movements on the ground, 2Then teach them statically on the machine, 3Then teach them on the machine while it’s moving. So we use the same movement patterns throughout the lesson, getting the trainee the opportunity to get comfortable with the movement before we take it to the machine.

Sometimes when we ski we feel so small compared to these jaw-dropping mountains. Is if frightening? Or is it fascinating? When you’re a tiny piece of the world where you can find things as amazing as these doesn’t it feel great that the smaller you are, the more adventures you’ll find on your way? When you’re a tiny piece of the world where let’s admit it you can choose very few things and your influence is so insignificant, isn’t it overwhelming?

Yet another residential building in Colorado just received a new SkyTechSport simulator for their residents! One of the best activities to use and train while you are stuck home: * Never boring thanks to lots of different racetracks, * Super-intensive cardio * Adjustable muscle loads - doesn’t matter how fit you are (but as with any equipment and any exercise, ask your physician first to be sure!). Do you have your own fitness routine while at home?

How old were you when you stepped first time on skis? Ski schools start as young as 2.5 y.o. BUT. * Let’s admit it: not many kids are overwhelmingly happy to commit to learning whatever you want them to, and for a decent number of days. * Don’t expect your offspring to even maintain any kind of motivation for more than a couple of hours. The fact that they were excited about slopes the day before the trip is not a guarantee they will be inclined to even get into their ski bo...ots on the next day. Planning skills is something we develop after the age of 7. * Most 4-year-olds that will only have a few ski trips per year won’t probably be skiing on their own. * In general, the magic age for skiing is closer to 5, when they can even manage the lifts and even get out of the ski school and onto the nice green runs. * Many programs for kids 2 to 4 years old combine indoor and outdoor time. * Private lessons, though painfully expensive, are truly worth it. After even few hours, you may be shocked how talented your little one is. So be patient. Look at your kid. Try to make them love the slopes and this vacation time rather than actually train them to ski at first. This will get them much further in the long run.
