Check out the San Jose State University School of Music and Dance presenting the #GraduateStudent series! This wonderful graduate student is Gabriela Crolla! Gabriela Crolla, Mezzo Soprano, has been hailed as a singer with a great voice and a great intensity, and someone who lives for music and singing by Dr. Terrence Spiller, head of the California Gabriela Polytechnic State University music department. As one of the top performers in her class, Gabriela graduated wit...h a Bachelors degree in music at California Polytechnic State University in 2017 on a scholarship where she studied classical voice. In 2017, she was one of the winners of Cal Poly’s Student Soloist Showcase where she performed with a full orchestra in the beautiful Christopher Cohen Performing Arts Center. She has also performed with the San Luis Obispo Opera outreach program and also with Central Coast Gilbert and Sullivan in productions such as The Pirates of Penzance, The Merry Widow, and The Gondoliers". Gabriela grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where she began studying voice in Saratoga, California in 2006. Since then, she has had extensive experience singing and performing in musicals, operas, vocal recitals, and concert performances. Gabriela has studied with professionals such as Mary Elizabeth Enmann (one of the first artists-in-residence with Opera San José), and Jacalyn Kreitzer (professor of vocal studies at California Polytechnic State University and professional opera singer having performed at places like The Metropolitan Opera). As a pupil of both of these masters of their craft, Gabriela has acquired knowledge of the anatomy of the human voice and its proper care with regard to singing. As a vocalist, she believes not only in the power of performance, but also, in the importance of possessing a strong vocal technique.
