One of the many things we are doing behind the scenes is finally seeing the light of day! This event was scheduled for last March and has been modified for an online experience next month. As a member of SPLAMBA we will be co-hosting this free event. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/WVsoYd4GuP3Cdv8AA
Please do not donate books through the book drop. Our librarian has been helping us throughout the City and has limited time to process donations. As you can see our back room is overflowing. We simply can not take donations at this time.
On paper, or through a screen, we can be anything. Today, online friends, let us start by being together. Our take home activity this week is an invitation to play. We’ll be dropping off bingo cards for you to create along with instructions on how to join us on Zoom. You can expect to find them by 3 this afternoon. We’ll also make them available online by the end of the day. Be well and stay healthy
This week’s take home activity is fireworks!!!! They are 100% safe as they are simply scratch art papers with a not too pointy stylus and sound effects provided by you! We hope you enjoy them and can celebrate a safe, socially distanced, quiet evening with your loved ones.
Today’s take home activity found in our Little Free Libraries... DIY Kaleidoscopes!!!
Merry Christmas!
Are you keeping active at home? Here’s Excercise Advent Day 5: Forefoot Twist to help you along!
Sandra and I got together to put together stained glass activities out on the patio today. We mixed elmer’s glue with liquid food coloring to create 26 take home activities. It’s probably best to do this activity outside as the food coloring might stain some surfaces. Once it dries it will be semi transparent. I forgot! These complete take home activities can be picked up in our Little Free libraries located in front of City Hall and Vertigo Coffee.
I’m very happy to announce that the U.S. Postal Service’s Operation Santa for children in need is now nationwide. Kids can write a letter, enclose a stamp and ...a return address, and send it to Santa Claus at 123 Elf Road, North Pole 88888! #USPSOperationSanta The Postal Service pairs a child’s letter with someone in the community (this could be you!) who sends the child one or more of the gifts on their wish list. To adopt a letter, visit http://www.uspsoperationsanta.com/. This program is for all denominations, regardless of faith. Details
We’ll definitely be trying today’s Excercise Advent from a seated position first.
Who else loves Hemingway’s books and cats?
Exercise Advent, Day 7: The Don’t Let Me Twist Your Arm! Twist When it comes to the body, it’s all connected. We say this a lot and I agree but I also like t...o note that sometimes the body gets TOO connected. (See: STICKY SPOTS - Read Move Your DNA for more on that.) Today’s move checks the connection between our hand/lower arm and shoulder. 1. Reach your right arm behind your back and bend it to bring the back of the hand to the spine as in Pic 1 (if you can’t bend it, just let it be straight across). Alignment checks here: pelvis back, ribs down, head ramped (you can find all of these explained on my blog). If this part is already really pulling on your shoulder, then make it today’s exercise. 2. ARE YOU READY? Now you’re going to FLIP YOUR HAND SLOWLY until the palm rests on your back. There’s only one direction it can turn (supination; lift the pinkie side to do the turn). If it’s not turning, try turning the other way. If it’s not turning because your shoulder is protesting, then you’ve found a place in the body that’s too connected! If you can partially turn, do that, and then practice more often. You can also pair this with upcoming advent upper body moves to make this area more mobile. Alignment checks: When you flip your right hand, notice if that makes your entire right shoulder blade jut. If yes, unflip, use your left hand over the top of your shoulder to help make that shoulder blade lay flat (pull it wide) and then try flipping that hand again without letting the shoulder blade move. The shoulder BLADE moving is a sneaky way to keep the shoulder JOINT from moving). #exerciseadvent #moveyourdna #alignmentmatters #twistmyarmwhydontyou
