Happiness Is Being a Recovering Addict By being more hopeful of the future and thinking happy thoughts, you will have a successful recovery. A new study in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment had senior research scientist Bettina B. Hoeppner use a new approach to helping recovering addicts achieve sobriety. The traditional method of sobriety involves figuring out what made you want to do drugs and working through it. While this is a very useful method, it can also be a p...ainful approach as you would need to relive the painful or shameful memories that made you want to substance abuse. Hoeppner asked 500 recovering addicts to complete a series of exercises to see if it will make them happier or not. The first exercise was called Reliving Happy Moments where you select a photo from your life that made you happy and describe what happened in the photo. The second exercise was Savoring Exercise where you talk about two positive experiences. The third exercise was Rose, Thorn, Bud where you talk about what happened the day before, what went wrong, and what you look forward to in the future....

Addiction will always affect the individual and their loved ones. The effects of addiction on the family of loved ones are often experienced as feelings of anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, and even resentment. These walls and emotions do not instantly dissolve when an individual recovers and often persist during and after treatment. Learning to trust, forgive and navigate new courses that include healthy limits often requires professional guidance and support for t...he family, too. The family needs treatment too - Simple Recovery can help. #LiveSimply

What is "treatment" Drug and alcohol addiction treatment was created to help individuals stop drug and alcohol use. Treatment can occur in a variety of settings including hospital-based settings, inpatient residential homes, and outpatient centers. Treatment modalities and lengths of stay can vary greatly, depending on the specific needs of each individual. At Simple Recovery, we believe that recovery is a life-long process that involves multiple interventions, continuing... care, and ongoing support through recovery communities such as 12-Step, and the like. We utilizes a comprehensive approach to treat the multifaceted condition of addiction and meet the needs of our clients as individuals. Our addiction treatment integrates the best evidence-based practices, including behavioral therapy (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, experiential therapy, and contingency management), community support, and psychiatric services to treat the mind, body and spirit of each individual that walks through our doors. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMT’s, dispatch, emergency room personnel, and other first responders put themselves on the front lines of responding to crises and emergencies every day Dealing with stress and trauma is a part of the job. You know that going into it but, repeated exposure to highly stressful and traumatic situations is known to impact mental health and wellbeing whether you were expecting it or not. First responders are precisely what their name i...mplies, the first ones on the scene. When they get to the scene, they have to face everything head-on. The daily intensity of their jobs often leads them to drugs and alcohol use as a means to cope or numb the experienced trauma. First Responders are at risk for developing substance use conditions along with co-occurring mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and stress. The First Responders that do reach out for help can also face backlash from peers because receiving support is still looked at as less masculine or weak, a direct contrast to what a First Responder "should" be. While the average civilian can experience a few traumatic events in their lifetime, first responders become accustomed to acute trauma, causing both physical and emotional exhaustion of the body and mind. That's why we've designed a program with their unique needs in mind. If you want to learn more about our first responder treatment program, click the link below. #LiveSimply

January 2018, Chris Rodriguez an aspiring artist and muralist was passing some time drunk in his garage, when he found a stick of dynamite that was left over from a previous summer. In his inebriated state, he didn't think to check to see if the wick was still intact, it wasn't. A spark, followed by an explosion blew through the neighborhood. Once he was able to realize what happened, it was too late. The blast caused too much damage, and the doctors could not save any part... of his hand, they had no choice but to amputate it. Like many of us who make it through a traumatic experience, after his accident, Rodriguez developed anxiety and depression which led him to drink again. April 2018 finally came around - Only four months since losing his hand. Chris concluded that if he was going to make an impact in the art community, he was going to have to get sober. He knew that if he continued to drink, the alcohol would eventually kill him. Rodriguez now spends his days painting large scale murals using ladders, lifts, and scaffolding all one-handed. He thanks the accident and his two children for turning his life around towards the better. To read more about Chris click the link below. #LiveSimply
