Mike Kort, member and Club Service Chair of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunset, took action at our local Samaritan Center. One of their two dryers broke down and they couldn't afford to repair. Mike found a dryer on Simi Exchange, bought it, hauled it, removed the old unit and installed the new one. The Samaritan Center was appreciative and stated that the machine works great. Systems Engineer, Peter Thommen, from Northrop Grumman gave us a brief lesson on satellites. Peter started his career as a software engineer in 1976 and is currently lead engineer of the team that tests software that flies satellites as space vehicles. Our second (and 3rd) in-person speakers of 2020! It's getting better all the time! Another great turn out for our speakers this evening. First, immediate Past District Governor, Savi Bhim spent a little time to give praise to club members that were on her District Staff last year. Congrats to Jill Haney, Maryann Fiore Hopkins, and Richard Grossman for all their hard work. Savi also presented ALL of them with a Paul Harris Fellow -- the highest honor in Rotary. It is well deserved! We had a great in-person turnout as we Zoomed with Dave & Michele Harrington, Owners of Thin Blue Wine Cellars. They provided a few bottles for all of us to taste as they described their wine and how Thin Blue Wine was created. Dave is a retired Sherrif's Sergeant and Michele is a Marine corps vet. Kelly Behle, Library Director at the Simi Valley Public Library gave us an update on how they are accommodating the public and students during quarantine. Especially since school is back in (online) session. The Library is providing curbside pickup. The public can now put items on hold and pick them up at the library.
