Discover Eastern Sierra fly fishing! This last week has been a busy, yet very successful start to the fall fishing season. I will let the pictures below do the talking. Some days the smoke seems like it is gone completely, while some days it seems that creep back into our lives and stay for a day or two. Nevertheless the fishing remains very good. The Lower Owens River Fly Fishing went wide open as the river dropped to a super fishable 150cfs. This is perfect for wading as it... allows access to a huge percentage of the river. A handful of fortunate fly fishers had some amazing fishing on the Lower this past week. A Hatch of small Baetis comes off around 12:30, and in some parts of the river trout are responding well on the surface. Nymphs, however, will take fish all day long. The Lower Owens will now fish well all winter with great access. Surface action will be coming soon as we pass into fall. Crowley Lake Fly Fishing continues to be super productive and exciting. We have been fishing from Hilton to the North Arm with constant success. Browns, Rainbows, and Lahonton Cutthroats have been coming to the net daily. Unfortunately, the Crowley Lake season is almost over, get a hold of us while you can to get it on this amazing Fishery. The Upper Owens River Fly Fishing is going as planned with many bulked up trout being sighted, caught, and released in the deepest and darkest holes of the upper river. The initial run started low, of course, but the fish have now infiltrated their way throughout the entire system. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone wanting a chance at a unforgettable, and over-sized trout out if an amazing river system. This will last throughout the winter. Arriving on the Upper Owens yesterday it was obvious we had the river all to ourselves. Water was clear and cool and some smoke had rolled in, yet not enough to throw off a good fishing session. Trout of all sorts were on the prowl for food as our flies were consistently being eaten. The full moon cycle is over and the population of big fish definitely is increasing. These trout are ready and willing to do some damage to the modest angler not ready for the brutal fight they put up.

Even though the forest service is sticking to their closures until the 8th of October, the smoke levels in the Owens Valley are minimal compared to what they were a week ago. The Creek fire is 44% contained as of today. Weather has been warm during the day with cool nights. Fishing has beed steady and good in most open destinations. The Upper Owens River continues to fish as it has been the last couple of weeks. Some residual hopper memory is noted and hopper patterns will st...ill get attention in the warmer parts of the day. Nymph patterns and streamers will work all day when tossed in then correct holding areas. Hold on tight and pay attention! Big fish are coming. The Lower Owens River has now fallen down to around 370cfs, nearing half its flow from just over a week ago. This is strong evidence that we will be on the Lower Owens vast system of curves, riffles, runs, and pools very soon. @stm_fly_fishing on Instagram Sierratroutmagnet.com/reports. for up to date reports.

Two days in a row of the clearest skies we've seen in two weeks! Today upon awakening we were able to see the Sierras to the west and the Whites to the East. The sun pierced through will full force for most of the day. The temperature reached 90 degrees, it felt great to be in the water! The Upper remains the same as we all await for the arrival of world class Trout. Some residual hopper interest still remains in the warmer parts of the day. The Lower Owens River is now at 420cfs and dropping down to a very fishable level very soon. This will give us another amazing option right here in Bishop.

The smoke was in moderately thick this morning on the Upper Owens River. Smokey patches filtered the sun off and on as the sun pierced through onto our backs for more than half the day. The morning was a bit chilly, signaling a change in season. The change some fortunate anglers have been thinking about all year. Stay tuned for good things to come. 9.24.20 @stm_fly_fishing on Instagram Call 760-873-0010 or text 661 364 6981 for more info.

As we awoke the smoke had moved in a bit thicker earlier this morning, a slight breeze commenced in the late afternoon slightly clearing the smoke out in the Owens and Long Valleys late this afternoon. Even though the smoke moved in on us it wasn't bad enough to inhibit Tracy C's. enthusiasm over one of her many trout landed today! We will await to see what tomorrow holds for the day as it's been moving in and out frequently. The smoke bothers some people and some are fine w...ith it. Shouldn't be a problem if you want to hook some fish. You should be focusing on the Fly in front of you anyway! Some good news is Lower Owens River dropped 100cfs over the last two days giving us a good signal that it is on its way down to fishable levels. As we have seen before on the Lower Owens after very high flows, almost no angling pressure, and unlimited food, the trout respond very well. Big and hungry! Smoke report : An angler learns to nymph and lands his first fish on a Tenkara fly rod with many more landed after his first one. His buddy (not in the picture) landed his first fish on a standard fly rod the same day! Then many after. The smoke moves out and in daily (its visible in the photo) . The last couple of days have not been bad at all. It all depends on the wind, overall it's still worth coming to fish in the Bishop and Mammoth area.
