Our Sierra Madre Middle School Service Club met today for our monthly meeting. Thank you to Judy Webb-Martin (Kiwanis President) and Leila Regan (SM Library) for joining us. A very special thank you to Pete Siberell, Director for Community Events & Special Projects at Santa Anita Park, for being our guest speaker; we learned about various service opportunities and admire the time and commitment you have given to our community!

Service Club: Monday, January 11 On Monday afternoon our Service Club will be meeting at 1:30pm. DRAMA CLUB with Ms. Emily! Wednesdays & Thursdays 3:00-4:30pm Open to ALL GRADE LEVELS... FIRST DAY: Wednesday, January 13th Please note that rehearsal attendance is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! Spotlight Awards: Monday, October 26 This Monday morning, students will have the opportunity to view a special Spotlight Recognition video during class. The video will be posted on SMMS Students for parents to view as well. Congratulations to all of our Spotlight award winners for the month of October. Hawks Spirit Gear Distribution: Monday, October 26 On Monday afternoon, we will be distributing Spirit Gear to individuals who have pre-purchased their items through Shopify on or before October 24. Please come to the Library patio between 1:00-3:00pm. We will have two additional distribution days before Winter Break on November 9 & December 7 PTSA Pumpkin Carving Contest Deadline: Thursday, October 29 This Thursday at noon, is the deadline to submit an entry in our PTSA's Pumpkin Carving Contest. Send an a picture of your pumpkin to [email protected]. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place prizes will be awarded. School Spirit Day: Friday, October 30 This Friday is a School Spirit Day, and the theme is a Halloween Celebration. Students and families are invited and encouraged to take part, and send photos of your costume to [email protected] for posting on SMMS Students. SMMS Service Club SMMS is once again offering the opportunity for students to take part in our Service Club, which encourages SMMS students to engage in opportunities that help their school and greater communities. Attention Sierra Madre Students, SMMS is once again offering the opportunity for students to take part in our Service Club, which encourages SMMS students to engage in opportunities that help their school and greater communities. Started by parents over ten years ago, our Service Club continues to be an activity that is sponsored and advised by our parents with the support of the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Madre. The Kiwanis Club donates our Builder's Club t-shirts each year and... we are very grateful! Last year our Hawks Helpers volunteered over 3,500 total hours of service. During the 2020-21 school year our volunteer parent leadership will be once again provided by Dr. Allison Evans. Dr. Evans will be hosting monthly Zoom calls to share opportunities for volunteering within our community. We will discuss volunteerism, along with potentially having a guest speaker visit our Zoom sessions. Fall Meetings: November 9: 1:30 - 2:15 pm December 7: 1:30-2:15 pm Zoom Links will be shared In November. If you are interested in taking part in this year' Service Club, please complete the attached Permission Agreement Form and submit it to SMMS Students or email it directly to Mr. Newsom at [email protected] The deadline to submit your agreement form is Wednesday, October 28th Our Service Club is directly supported by the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Madre. In addition this year the Annual Fund will join in support.

Dear Sierra Madre Students, Parents & Families Tomorrow we will be celebrating Unity Day, which is an annual event that promotes joining together to create healthier communities through kindness, acceptance of difference, and inclusion. All members of our school community are encouraged to Stand Up To Bullying! by wearing ORANGE to show their support. Please send pictures of your Unity Day celebration to [email protected] for posting on our SMMS Students page.

Attention Sierra Madre Students & Parents, October is National Bullying Prevention Month! Pasadena Unified School District will be holding a poster contest to promote student voices against bullying. The theme for this contest is: We Stand Together Against Bullying!... Poster Contest Rules Design a poster related to bullying prevention. Poster must use the template provided.(see attached) If students are not able to print out the template, they may create their poster on an 8.5/11 piece of paper. The contest is from October 7th through October 26th Students will need to submit their poster on Monday, October 26th by the end of the school day. The Office of Child Welfare, Attendance, and Safety will choose 3 winners that will be announced on Friday, October 30th One winner will be chosen for Elementary, Middle, and high school. The winning posters will be displayed on social media (@PUSDAttendance) and the PUSD website. Note: Parents and guardians must consent to having their child’s poster (which contains their name and school) on public display. Be creative and have fun! Prizes Each winner announced on October 30th will receive a $50 Target gift card. The gift card will be mailed to them on November 1st How to Submit a Poster Please submit a photo or scanned copy of the completed poster to [email protected].
