Which is it Wednesday? The Big Leaf Maple - native or not? Although COVID19 social distancing prevents us from hiking together, let's enjoy local Autumn scenes by sharing them with each other. The Big Leaf Maple is native to the northwest region of the US and British Columbia. It develops best when near a body of water but can thrive in dry climates as well! Not to mention, a variety of animals find this tree to be a tasty snack from its seeds to its twigs and leaves.

Our friends at the LA County Bike Coalition have been working hard to get bikes to people. We're thrilled to help share their story. Due to the current health crisis, Los Angeles is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the number of people seeking alternative transportation options to access their essential jobs or take essential trips. In order to help ensure more frontline workers and residents have access to alternative transportation options, LACBC is partnering with a number of bike brands, shops and bike co-operatives to restore and assemble a large collection of donated bikes while working with local community and neighborhood organizations to distribute the bikes in areas of greatest need, focused in South LA, the Southeast LA Cities, and other low income communities with high concentrations of essential workers.

Sierra Club Angeles Chapter 20.05.2020

In this country, we believe in fairness. Fairness means cleaning up your mess, not walking away. We're dismayed to learn that the Trump administration is OK with this plan, and we've signed on to a letter urging for accountability. "A bankruptcy plan by Exide Technologies, which operated the now-closed lead-acid battery smelter in Vernon that is blamed for the pollution, would allow the site to be abandoned with the remediation unfinished."
