Powder Magazine covers our continued work to Keep Squaw True: 'Our environmental laws exist for situations like this,' says Isaac Silverman, staff attorney for Sierra Watch. 'They require state agencies to make informed decisions and they require them to accurately disclose the impacts of those decisions. And when you have a situation like this one where that hasn’t happened, those approvals aren’t legal.'

From SFGATE: "The Greater Sacramento region, which includes Lake Tahoe and Truckee, is the latest in California to see its ICU capacity drop below 15%, triggering a stay-at-home order. As of Wednesday morning, ICU capacity is at 14.3%, the state announced. The stay-at-home order will start just before midnight on Thursday, the Sacramento Bee reported. It affects 13 counties in Northern California: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, S...ierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba." Stay safe, stay home, and wear a mask for essential travel.

Remember back in 2015, when KSL Capital Partners stood up in a public meeting and said they were in negotiations with Great Wolf Lodge to build and operate an indoor waterpark in Squaw Valley? It would have included "North America's tallest water slide tower." That deal for now fell through. But there is a new Great Wolf Lodge in the Central Valley, and it's name is Great Wolf San Francisco! Who else can't wait for Great Wolf Lodge Lake Tahoe and all the traffic it would... bring. From SFGATE "As coronavirus cases accelerate, the new guidelines allow for ski resorts to continue operations in all tiers of the state’s COVID blueprint, so long as businesses make specific modifications. Nevada, Placer and El Dorado counties where Tahoe’s ski resorts are located are in the purple and most restrictive tier in the state's coronavirus reopening plan. So is Mono County, which includes Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. Many ski resorts in California have already opened and they have all taken steps to limit the number of skiers and snowboarders on the mountains. Over Thanksgiving weekend, signs stationed at the entrances to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows welcomed passholders, but announced that no lift tickets were being sold."

Have you seen Alterra Mountain Company’s new survey? They are seeking public input on the impending name change for Squaw Valley. Whaddya think should they name it after our favorite lake (Tahoe)? Or our favorite book (Squallywood)? https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/6063859/rn122020dm
