We want to introduce you to Richard! Richard visited the showers to utilize our services a few months ago, and since that day, he has become an integral part of the ShOW UP family. Richard meets Mark every morning to help set up for the day, takes the first shower to make sure things are running well, and hangs out to clean and offer fellowship and conversation to our patrons throughout the day. He’s even an expert at break down- and we know the ShOW UP crew always leaves our locations even cleaner than they were when we rolled in! We love you, Richard, and we look forward to offering more volunteer and even employment opportunities to our patrons as our program grows!

Ok everyone, apparently GoFundMe made some changes and my fund raiser has been down since October 1st. They say it's up now. So, go ahead and check it out, see if it's working. Thank you all for helping us serve our unhoused patrons. I honestly think and hope everyday things are going to slow down. Businesses are opening again and people want to get on with their lives. However, our unhoused community didn't get to shelter in place. The streets we usually walk is their fron...t porch. When they take cover it usually involves some sort of plant life. Their lives didn't really change unless you consider the fact it became harder to find food, impossible to find a bathroom and/or a place to wash. The very things we were forced to be around by sheltering in place they couldn't even find. There was and still is a need for this program. As a matter fact, we have come to realize there is a bigger need! We have only been able to serve the individuals in the immediate downtown/Midtown area. Since we know there is a need, we at Show Up are trying to fulfill it. We can't add more hours to the day or more days to the week, so we are doing the next best thing. We are going to add 2 more trailers to Sacramento! These trailers will be showers and bathrooms. We hope not only to help our unhoused community maintain good health with good hygiene practices, we are hoping to provide a place where they can use the bathroom and shower instead of using the rivers. This will help the issues that come with hundreds, if not thousands, of people polluting the waterways around the Sacramento area. Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for helping us make it this far and by showing our unhoused community that we see them and we do care about them. Now, I ask for you to help us keep up the good fight and bring this program to as many people as we can. Just think, every cent you donate goes to help someone, or several individuals feel whole again. I wish I could relay the feelings that come out when people come to us and find out what we are doing and why we are doing it. When what has been a dream for the past 3 weeks for someone is actually a reality. You have made this happen. Not the City, not the County and not the Feds. Its all been able to happen because a lot of caring, compassionate and people who believe in human dignity. Thank you again. So remember, check to see if the GoFundMe is really working again. Also, listen for a GoFundMe Hero of the Month podcast. It might even be someone you all know.

CALL TO ACTION!! Sacramento friends- Bayside Church of Midtown has been so gracious in the past year to let us use their beloved fish building at 19th & V to store the shower trailer. Bayside has obtained permits to start construction on expansion of their campus and we need a new place to store the trailer(s) and our supplies! Do you know of warehouse space that could be donated to Sh.O.W. U.P.? Do you have a lead, or a friend, or a creative idea that could help us? Email [email protected] and let’s figure this out together!! Thank you!!

I can't believe its been almost 5 months that we have been going full throttle serving our unhoused patrons during this crisis. I never envisioned that two guy...s talking about ways we can help our unhoused would have turned into something so amazing and magical! I wish I could show you the changes our guests go through when they know Sh.O.W. U.P. is there to serve them. Most of us take for granted the simple pleasure of taking a shower daily. The unhoused community do not have that same option. So, when they come down the street and they see us waiting to serve them with warm, clean showers. Brand new underwear and socks. Fresh clean towels and a hygiene kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razor and above all else, compassion, love and no judgements. The smiles, confidence, self worth, feeling of hope and humanity. The overall changes are so obvious I can't even begin to explain. Sh.O.W. U.P., in partnership with Bayside Church, has been able to provide well over 7,000 showers during this crisis. Do you want to know a secret? We are going to continue to serve our unhoused patrons as long as we can sustain our program. After cost analysis and some fund stretching to keep us going, we figure it costs about $6 per person per shower. We started a GoFundMe in the beginning and because of those donations we have been able to change the lives of so many individuals, Gods children, mothers, sisters, fathers, and daughters. We are looking at things getting worse before it gets better with our unhoused. Since the demand is only going to i crease, we are in the process of acquiring a few more trailers to provide service to more people and to try to meet the needs of as many unhoused communities as we can. Currently there are so many individuals as well as famines who are just 1 paycheck away from being homeless or unhoused. For those of you who have donated to this program, my deepest gratitude. For those who are interested in Donating or just want to find out more about our what we do, check us out at showupsac.ca. Please remember, if you have the means, build a bigger table, not higher fences. See more
