Five ways to keep your back healthy 1. Yoga for lots of core work to both strengthen and keep your back flexible, front and back. 2. Let your spine rest while sleeping. Good mattress and pillows! 3. Shoes with good arch support that fit your feet properly, and prevent rolling of the foot (in or out). 4. Get a massage to increase endorphins - the body's natural painkiller. (they offer great Thai massages at Purusha!).... 5. Practice good ergonomics when sitting and limit total time sitting. A strong core (anterior/front and posterior/back) stabilizes your entire body, both in yoga and in daily life. If you neglect your core, you increase risk of injury, especially in the lower back. Strong core adds grace, intention and corrects your posture in everyday activities. The Purusha Seva Project is a non-profit 501 c-3 helping to bring yoga and wellness to underserved and disadvantaged in the SF area. Their most current program is working directly with the SF VA Hospital and local Veterans suffering from PTSD. They are currently not funded and all costs have been absorbed by the non-profit.
