GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN Deputy Constable William Blake End of Watch: Saturday, November 25, 1911... On November 23, 1911, Deputy Constable William Blake was deputized in order to assist in the arrest arrest of two Indians who had shot and killed a rancher near Fall River Mills. Deputy Blake and another deputy had positioned themselves on a road they knew the suspects would be travelling on. When the suspects passed they ordered them out of the wagon, but were fired upon. The deputies returned fire, striking one of the men before the suspects fled. Deputy Blake was shot in the hip and taken to a local doctor who amputated his leg in an attempt to save his life. He succumbed to his wounds two days later. Deputy Blake was survived by his wife, two sons, and sister. The suspects, father and son, were captured in Lovelock, Nevada, seven weeks later. The son was considered unfit to stand trial. The father was charged with two counts of first degree murder. At his trial he claimed he shot the rancher and Deputy Blake in self defense and was acquitted. On August 16, 1924, he was killed in an automobile accident near Red Bluff.

The deputies heard several gunshots from the area of Windy Point Road, about... a quarter mile east of their location. Deputies responded and located an unidentified adult Hispanic male deceased near the roadway, with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body. Detectives from the Shasta County Major Crimes Unit were called and took over the investigation. Witnesses in the area were contacted who overheard a verbal altercation prior to the gunshots. ***UPDATE*** Detectives have identified the victim as 34-year-old Noel Garcia from Hayward, California. Garcia’s next of kin has been notified. Garcia was found to be a documented Campo Ramos Locos gang member and was on active California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) parole for attempted murder out of West Sacramento, California.
