Ok gymkhana and Rodeo kids... here is the PSA for today! I see many of you who want to drop your hand and pull your horse around the barrel. What that does is let your horses shoulder drop into the barrel and they loose the collection in their back end which leads to a sloppy strung out turn. Instead you should be slightly elevating your inside hand to pick that inside shoulder up and keep the back inside leg up underneath your horse. Think of a high jumper trying to m...ake a jump from a standing position. They have no power! They need to collect up and crouch a bit to fire into their jump or in our case turn. You don’t want your horse leaning or balancing on your inside rein... rather being respectful and keeping that shoulder up with your gentle support as they go around the barrel. Be sure to engage your angry turtle in the turn! Don’t know what an angry turtle is? Ask me I promise it will help your barrel horse! See more

It’s time for the first edition of IT’s TARGET’S WORLD!!

Ok...So I am always looking for cool new products.. especially ones that can make my life easier around the barn. This caught my eye... because we always get a lot of algae in our water troughs. For our bigger troughs we use goldfish and they do a great job of keeping the algae under control... but our smaller troughs not so much... so I would love to try this there and see if that helps!! This is one of my favorite veterinary "hacks" for my horses and the mystery injuries they get. It's antibiotic in a plastic syringe that can be used to insert ...the antibiotic into those pesky mystery puncture holes that horses get (i.e. avoid abscesses). Best part? It's only about $6 for a tube! You can get this in the cow care section at TSC or Rural King. Make sure to get DRY COW (because they also make/sell wet cow). See more
