It was a beautiful day for lessons at the ranch The sky is clear and the horses and kids were happy to be riding !
For those of you who have kids in the horse expo tomorrow please arrive around 10am, we usually start right at this time. Theres plenty of parking but we ask that you do not park near the covered arena area. Please keep your dogs and other furry friends at home for the day and we ask for the safety of our horses to not allow other children to run or scream on property ! Thank you so much for your support we look forward to seeing everyone come out and support the kids!
This was so awesome I couldnt help but share: I am a lesson horse. I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson horse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse. ... I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse. I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse. I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse. At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse. At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse. I am a lesson horse. -So greatful for our lesson horses-

For those of you that haven’t heard, our dear sweet Angel is no longer with us. After 42 years this little girl let us know it was time to let her go. Angel became a sort of mascot at the ranch and everyone always loved her, even after they could no longer ride her. May she gain some wings and join her namesakes. What are some memories you guys have about Angel?

Who's ready for show season!
No hour indeed!
What do you feed a race horse!?
What horses (or ponies) do you remember from Shady Lawn? Where any your favorite?
Do you guys remember her? That's right :) it's Angle! This old girl is 35 years young and going strong. Jane's had her since Angle was 11, and she was a tad spooky at the time. But now she is one of Jane's favorite and most faithful ponies. Angle is retired now but still gets all the care she deserves.
Keep your horses warm and dry tonight! This storm is a doozy....
What's your favorite time to ride? Early morning? Mid afternoon? Dusk? Or another time?
It was a beautiful evening for a ride. Don't you think?
So guys tell me... What's your favorite memory of Shady Lawn?
Our ponies know this feeling a little too well when it comes to expo days at the end of our camps!
Sweet dreams everyone! May you dream of green fields and blue skies <3
Our future Miss La Grange Rodeo Queen! She still had tickets available, for dinner, dance, and the rodeo itself. Come on guys, let's help her out! Let's add to our list of rodeo winners :) contact Janna Franks via Facebook for more information
Horseback riding is the art of convincing your horse that you are right. The more convincing you are... The better rider you are ;)
So I have some bad news....Zorro had to be put down today. He coliced unexpectedly and his gut twisted, he just didn't make it. Zorro has been with us for about nine years, and he was 29 years old when he passed. Everyone loved Zorro and he was such a trust worthy old boy, adults and beginners alike fell in love with him. This old ranch horse finally gets to run free with the wild horses above <3
Hey guys! So I think I'm going to be doing some bios on the horses and riders out here...what do ya think? Anyone in particular you would like to know about? Let me know!
Hey Hey everyone!! I know that not much has been posted lately and that you are all a little behind on whats going on over here at Shady Lawn Ranch. Well let me just tell you that something big has just been announced! Our very own Janna Franks will be running for Miss 2014 La Grange Rodeo Queen! She and her horse Chase will be stiff competition for the other girls. Please show your support and lets help her win the crown! For ticket sales please contact Janna via Facebook. I'm sure she'll greatly appreciate it!
Great video of Shady Lawn Ranch in the Oakdale Rodeo Parade today. Thanks Charley Swarthout for posting =]
