It was so great to have our friends at Urban Jazz Dance Company help us kick off our annual meeting yesterday! Can't wait to see them at the International Deaf Dance Festival this summer.

Mike lives at home with his family, where he wants to be and where he's able to be active in his community. He and his mom explain how Medicaid makes this possible and how the current proposed changes would force him from his home.

In 1977, disabled activists took over San Francisco city hall to demand equal rights for over 20 days. The capitol police need to think about that. And they need to know that it is not only unsafe, it's a physical violation to remove someone from their wheelchair without their consent. As the article states, people with disabilities "use Medicaid to be able to work in the community; to be free and independent; to live on this planet". The disability community is not going to be quiet with so much at stake.

Make time this summer to check out this exhibit at the San Francisco Public Library! "In this exhibition, discover a remarkable, overlooked moment in U.S. history. On April 5, 1977, American people with and without disabilities showed the world the power of grassroots activism."
