#Repost @hh_sft with @repostapp. It all started from there! With this 3 fins configuration that mimics fish fins configuration (probably Dolphins, Sharks...) Master #SimonAnderson has brought us more than 30 years ago the biggest innovation known into surfing, in terms of maneuverability. The beginning of thrusters era! As per design the side fins have an angle (toe) with respect to the flow of water, they thus inducing non negligible loss of speed / drag when surfing in ...straight line. While placement of center fin is set up perfectly for that, also providing projection and holding power. Side fins having toe angle, induce a torque with respect to center fin (in terms of dynamics and kinematic), in order to help us turn easily. We can observe that we have to counteract that momentum with our body biomechanics to go straight. Also, only 2 fins are driving into the face of the wave, while the 3rd is most of the time stalling, thus slowing us down even more with induced swirls and turbulence. It is why it was obvious that an improved design needed to be made on side fins, in order to make them active with water flow and board trajectory, and thus to drastically reduce the loss of speed we encounter nowadays with existing fin systems. Intense testing have been carried on boards equipped with #SpeedFlowTech fin system by various surfers, on various spots and in various condition of waves during the last few years. The result is clear: now surfing can be frictionless, boards even more maneuverable and more speed can be generated even in flat sections of the wave. Active side fins are acting like "power steering" on a car, enhancing the flow, projection and acceleration thru turns. It's now time to #evolvetodynamicsurfing !!! #Repost @hh_sft with @repostapp. What is modern surfing all about? Speed, acceleration, extreme turns, right?!? So how can we resist to say that fins systems and fins alignment need to be improved when we see such a swirl/vortex on this side fin? On a fluid mechanics point of view vortices are increasing drag, thus reducing speed and drive. You can observe the same phenomenon on a landing airplane, while they increase the width of the wings and the curve of its profile/fo...il at trailing edge as to increase lift of wing at low speed and allowing the plane to reduce its speed for landing. But here this is something we want! Not like for surfing, where top notch surfers are seeking for highest speed and flow patterns to achieve extreme moves in the wave. This is where the active fins #speedflowtech make the difference, by aligning themselves to board trajectory and flow, they allow all the fins to drive and eliminate the formation of such vortices. That means minimum drag, maximum speed and acceleration in the wave. #activesurfboardfins #nodrag #morespeed #morepop #powerunleashed #increasedreactivity #modrive #therevolutionisnow #finsystem #surfboardfin #vortex #surfing #wave #surfingsfuture #surfboard #wsl See more
