Changing our behavior can have a major impact on controlling the spread of this virus. On December 6, the day we started the limited #StayHome Order, our reprod...uctive rate was estimated to be 1.46. As of December 20, our reproductive rate was 1.24. The virus is still spreading rapidly & changes in these estimates don’t sound like a lot. BUT, as a result of change: - Projected peak median hospitalizations have decreased by 900 (from 1,490 to 590) - Additional median deaths have decreased by 330 (from 544 to 214 by March 1st) That is 330 people we projected to die from COVID-19 that may not die. That is what we have done together, as a city, in just two weeks! By limiting our mobility, wearing a mask, social distancing, and not gathering, we have kept people safe and we have saved lives. If we reduce the reproductive rate further, we will continue to make progress. Our destiny is in our hands. Do not travel this holiday season and do not gather with those not in your household. Stay home, save lives. #MaskTheSFup

#COVID19 is spreading quickly in SF. We need to bend this curve now. Make the right choice. Avoid indoor gatherings this holiday season and wear a mask during all essential outings.

San Francisco, along with other Bay Area counties, is opting in to the Governor's regional Stay at Home Order effective Sunday at 10pm. We're on pace to run out... of hospital beds to care for patients the day after Christmas. We must turn this around now. We do not take these actions lightly. I know the impact that they have on local businesses, employees, and all of our residents, especially without the federal support that we need. But we can't afford to wait and delay the inevitable. Our goal is to flatten this curve now. Our Community learning hubs remain open. Schools that are open remain open. Elementary schools that are closed can reopen with a waiver, and we absolutely must continue our work to reopen our public schools. Our full announcement can be found here: https://sfmayor.org//san-francisco-join-bay-area-counties- Additional information about which businesses and activities can operate in San Francisco and what modifications are required at this time is available here: http://sf.gov/step-by-step/reopening-san-francisco. We've flattened the curve before. We can and we will do it again.

Mayor London N. Breed and SFDEM VIRTUAL PRESS CONFERENCE - COVID-19 UPDATE COVID-19 Update December 4, 2020

SFDPH 30.10.2020

During SF's response to COVID, we've taken reopening carefully & deliberately. We’ve made tough choices. We're beginning to see an increase in cases & hospitali...zations. While this is not cause to move backward, we are going to pause some of the reopening scheduled for Nov 3. Given what we’re seeing in our numbers and across the country and the world, we want to give San Francisco Department of Public Health time to evaluate what’s happening so that we can work to stay ahead of this virus and keep our community safe. We know this virus can move fast, so we have to adjust. -- We’re pausing reopening for indoor pools, bowling alleys & locker rooms & showers at gyms. -- Indoor restaurants, movie theaters, museums, zoos, aquariums & places of worship will stay at 25% for now. -- Outdoor worship and protests will stay limited to 200 people for the time being. Businesses & activities that are currently allowed can continue operating. Some limited, lower risk activities will still move forward on Tuesday. For our full reopening timeline, go to SF.gov/reopening. We have to all keep doing our part and follow public health guidance to keep ourselves, our families, & our entire city safe. This is going to be especially important with Halloween this weekend and the election on Tuesday. In a normal year, these are times for family, for friends, and for community. But this is not a normal year -- and we can’t act like this virus is behind us. For Halloween, try alternatives like virtual costume contests, an at-home haunted house, scavenger hunts, or outdoor costume parades. Trick-or-treating is not encouraged, but we do have tips (SF.gov/HalloweenAtHome) about how to trick-or-treat safely if you choose to do it. For Election Night, virtual watch parties are safest. If you do go out, please wear your mask, keep your distance, & limit outdoor gatherings to fewer than 25 people from no more than 3 households. I know it's not easy, but we need to continue to adapt & get creative. Our full announcement is available here: https://sfmayor.org//san-francisco-temporarily-pause-expan

For National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, be sure to act early to get your child tested for lead. Younger children are of higher risk of lead exposure due to their developmental and/or pica behavior, hand-to-mouth activities, and greater rate of lead absorption. Prevent your children from getting lead poisoning by having a nutritional and balanced diet rich in calcium, iron, vitamin C and protein, while maintaining good hygiene practices. Addressing the overdose crisis in San Francisco means reaching people whenever and wherever they are ready for treatment -- including during a hospital stay. The Addiction Care Team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital served 475 patients in its first year, 2019, and is on track to double that in 2020.

The flu vaccine protects everyone’s health. When you’re vaccinated against flu, you are less likely to catch the flu and less likely to infect others, including people at high risk of developing serious flu complications. In addition, your symptoms will tend to be less severe than if you had not received the vaccine and your chances of hospitalization due to flu will be lower. Check out your flu shot options here: https://sf.gov/get-your-flu-shot

We, with the COVID Command Center, announced today that in partnership with Chinese Hospital and community-based organizations, we will host the first City sponsored free pop-up mobile test site in Chinatown. The pop up testing site will be at Chinatown’s Portsmouth Square on October 30 and November 6. This pop-up testing site will be free. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are also welcome. This pop-up mobile test site, being developed in partnership with Color will focus on serving our Chinatown community, which is populated by members of SRO buildings, the senior community, the immigrant community, and our hardworking essential workers, who need testing the most. "Experts credit San Francisco’s success to a long partnership between public health officers and universities, most notably during the AIDS crisis. San Francisco is not monolithic, but its residents largely followed health guidelines." Thank you to everyone doing their part to limit the spread of #COVID19 in San Francisco and keep up the great work! Help our community stay safe as we continue to reopen by wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, and avoiding indoor gatherings. #MaskTheSFup

San Francisco is making progress on its road to economic recovery, and supporting that recovery is going to take all of us working together. There will be chall...enges ahead but we’re already seeing signs of hope in our City. Here’s a look at some of the good news from this week: - Let’s start with the numbers. 7 day positivity rate = .83% 7 day case rate = 32 cases/day 7 day daily test rate = 5,078 tests/day We still have a long way to go, but these numbers are key for our recovery. Stats via San Francisco Department of Public Health https://data.sfgov.org/stories/s/fjki-2fab - Now that we’re in Yellow, San Francisco will start to reopen offices on Tuesday. We know our downtown is a key driver of our economic engine and we can get people back to work safely. And we are seeing positive signs for the future. https://www.sfchronicle.com//Google-expands-S-F-office-des - Our small businesses and their employees are working hard every day to survive & we need to keep up our efforts to support them and help them recover & thrive. That’s why we’re extending Shared Spaces permits through June 30, 2021. Learn more here: https://www.sfmta.com//shared-spaces-permits-extending-nex - Word is out that the latest Marvel movie is filming in San Francisco! This means jobs for our local film industry talent, more support for our small businesses, and showing the world our unique & incredible neighborhoods. https://www.sfgate.com//Marvel-Studios-movie-filming-downt - Building affordable housing = building back our economy. This week we celebrated the groundbreaking of 2 affordable housing projects at Balboa Park Upper Yard & 681 Florida. I'm proud of our work to create housing & maximize the jobs that go with it. https://missionlocal.org//seventh-100-percent-affordable-/ - As we recover, we must continue to meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents. $29 million from the State’s Project Homekey helps us make progress on our Homelessness Recovery Plan & get people off the streets & into housing. https://www.sfchronicle.com//S-F-hotel-near-Union-Square-t - Recovery can be fun, too! Families are now able to visit Golden Gate Park's Observation Wheel, as well as nearby California Academy of Sciences and de Young Museum. SF’s commitment to preventing the spread has allowed us to keep reopening, including fun & cultural activities. https://www.skystarwheel.com/tickets - We still have a lot more to do, especially working with the School District to get our public schools open. We have to watch the 3rd wave we are seeing in other areas, but as long as we follow public health guidance and keep our numbers stable, we will continue to move forward.
