Tomorrow, Saturday November 9, we'll host Ohlone artist and activist Kanyon Sayers-Roods in her presentation of the Ohlone Land Minizine, a celebration of space, place, and the original people of the beautiful city we call San Francisco. Join us on Saturday, October 26 at 3pm to celebrate VIVA with the SF Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble! They will present a special concert and demonstration of the rhythms and instruments used in Latin jazz and salsa music. An informational discussion about the music from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Latin America will follow, led by music director John Calloway, Ph.D. For all ages. LYJE is made up of students ages 1017 from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. They have performed at jazz festivals, music venues and private events. Dance into VIVA (Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month) on Saturday, Oct 12 with Rueda Con Ritmo! Since its origins in the 1950s in Havana, Cuban Salsa (Rueda de Casino) has spread throughout Cuba and around the world, including a vibrant dance community in the SF Bay Area. This beginner hour-long class teaches the fundamentals, finishing with a group dance in a Rueda (circle). No partner or special attire required.
