Happiest of birthdays to singer, songwriter, 2018 NEA Jazz Master, and 2018-20 SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director Dianne Reeves! Discovered by trumpet legend Clark Terry, Reeves paid her early dues with Harry Belafonte, Billy Childs, and Stanley Turrentine before making her star-studded, GRAMMY-nominated Blue Note debut in 1987. Her five GRAMMYs include an unprecedented three consecutive Best Jazz Vocal Performance awards, another for her contributions to the soundtrack of George Clooney’s Good Night and Good Luck, and a Best Jazz Vocal Album nod for her 2014 Concord release Beautiful Life. As a Resident Artistic Director, Reeves paid tribute to the music of Brazil, and celebrated the 20th anniversary of her landmark Blue Note album Bridges, as featured in our Fridays at Five streaming concert series in August.
