A beautiful testament on behalf of Coach Bonds from St. Francis grad Marko Tinoco '14. GO KNIGHTS and Semper Fi! First and foremost I want to pay my deepest condolences to the Bonds family, just know that we are all here for you. Coach Bonds is one of the greatest men I have encountered and I knew this even before I was a man myself. He molded me to become the man I am today, just as my mother and father have. ... Something I will never forget from Coach Bonds was if you received a penalty during the game, come Monday after practice you’ll be doing a little bit of extracurricular activities. He would not harp on the penalty, nor hold it against you, but you had to pay your dues. Reflecting on it now, it was a life lesson that was far more than just a football lesson. It was about making a mistake and having the manhood to acknowledge it and press forward leaving that mistake in the past. Coach Bonds and the other coaches were a lighthouse in the long, harsh voyage I was sailing. They shed a light on me that helped me persevere through my struggles. I had a few meetings prior to my senior year with Coach Bonds and those interactions changed the course of my life. Coach Bonds didn’t need to treat us as his own, but he always did and looked out for our best interests whether it was on or off the field. I cannot express how much of an impact Coach Bonds and his teachings have on me. From Saint Francis to the United States Marine Corps to a college student, his lessons of selflessness and the contribution to something greater than ones self have and will always resonate within me. Love you Jimbo and I will do my best to keep those promises I made to you. Thank you for believing in me and being that release I needed. #BondsStrong https://www.nbclosangeles.com//marko-tinoco-in-th/2054206/

To our St. Francis Alumni family, As you’ve seen by now, we lost our mentor, father figure, leader, and friend, Coach Jimmy Bonds. To say his influence reached... many is an understatement. He helped mold us into the fathers, brothers, husbands, and men we are today. The alumni association wants to honor our coach and show his family how influential he was by having one more Game Day. For one week, pick a day where you wear mass dress, a letterman’s or football pullover, and tag #bondsstrong to show his family how much he has meant to us. Let’s show them how many of us he touched. It’s a blessing to have been coached by him, to learn from him, and it’s now on us to spread his message and his spirit. He stated himself, St. Francis is a family unlike any other. Let us lean on each other now more then ever, let’s lift up the Bonds family, and one another. Together, we can and will honor him. In Brotherhood, Mike Daher, ‘06 President, Alumni Association

Remembering and Celebrating Coach Bonds Jim Bonds, Head Football Coach at St. Francis High School, passed away early this morning from complications of multiple myeloma at UCLA Medical Center. He was 51 years old. He was an outstanding prep quarterback at Hart High School where he won a CIF title and all-CIF honors. He went on to play football and baseball at UCLA.... Coach Bonds began his coaching and teaching career at St. Francis as an assistant under Bill Redell in 1993. After two years, he took the position of Head Football Coach at Bishop Alemany. After Redell left St. Francis, Bonds was named to lead the Golden Knights’ football program in 2000. In his twenty seasons as the Knights’ head coach, he amassed a record of 160-76, won two league championships, had nineteen playoff appearances which included five semi-final appearances and a CIF runner-up title in Division 3 in 2017. Perhaps his greatest asset though, according to St. Francis’ President Fr. Tony Marti, was the way he completely embraced and lived the school’s philosophy and instilled values in his teams. Coach Bonds will be remembered as a friend, colleague, teacher, mentor, and beloved head football coach by those who were blessed by his influence. Perhaps his greatest strength was his ability to develop his students and football players into great men. His legacy lives on in the countless number of lives that he transformed through and beyond the game of football. He did so by living and instilling the Franciscan virtues that are so essential to St. Francis’ approach to education. Regardless of wins or losses, the Golden Knights who played for him knew that sportsmanship and character mattered most of all. He encouraged his student-athletes to support each other and put the team above their personal ambitions. The St. Francis family continues to pray for Coach Bonds, his wife Tricia, son James, daughter Katie, and the entire Bonds family. Jimmy ran with the ball and scored a touchdown into heaven. God bless him. May he rest in peace.

Dear St. Francis family, It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing early this morning of our friend, colleague, mentor, and beloved head football coach Jimmy Bonds. Jimmy put up an amazing fight until his last breath. He was a fighter and an inspiration to all of us. His twenty-two years at St. Francis, twenty of them as Head Coach of the Varsity team and head of our football program, were marked not only by record victories but, most importantly, by the c...ore values he instilled in our players. He lived those values. Jimmy believed in our Capuchin Franciscan virtues and the mission of our school. The Golden Knights who played for Jimmy knew that sportsmanship and character counted in their development as young men. They were always brothers because Jimmy encouraged them to support each other and to put the team above their personal ambitions. Jimmy's coaches, the players, the faculty and staff, and all of us in the Administration mourn the passing of one of our greatest in the history of St. Francis High School. We pray for the repose of his soul and will continue keeping his wife Tricia, their children Katie and James, Jimmy’s mother, his brother Tom and his wife Julie and their son Michael, and the entire family in our prayers. We will have a prayer service tonight at 7:00 pm. I will ask Fr. Christopher to resend the instructions for the prayer service. Jimmy ran with the ball and scored a touchdown into heaven. God bless him. May rest in peace. Yours in Christ, Fr. Tony Marti and Mr. Tom Moran
