This afternoon at 4pm the San Francisco Human Rights Commission will kick off a new monthly series of virtual town hall events: "Stand Together: Uniting Against Discrimination and Bias." The goal of the town halls is to raise visibility of increased anti-Asian discrimination and racism brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. RSVP here: bit.ly/StandTogetherOct20

Yesterday morning our Director Maria Su headed out to the Richmond District to meet with District 1 Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer, City Librarian Michael Lambert, and staff from DCYF and the San Francisco Public Library to visit two Community Hubs: the Hub at the San Francisco Public Library Richmond Branch anchored by The Richmond Neighborhood Center, and the Hub at the Argonne Playground, which is anchored by the YMCA of San Francisco. Thank you to the staff and students for taking time out of your (very hot!) day to show the crew around! Learn more about the Community Hubs here: https://www.dcyf.org/care

It's a beautiful day in San Francisco, which made a perfect backdrop to reopen the City's playgrounds! Mayor London Breed , District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai, SFDPH Director Dr. Grant Colfax, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg, DCYF's Director Maria Su, and children and staff from Youth 1st met at the gorgeous, newly remodeled Merced Heights Playground to make the City's announcement official. Today our Director Maria Su and District 9 Supervisor Hillary Ronen visited Community Hubs hosted by Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and Buena Vista Children's Center at St. Peter's. The Community Hubs are helping students log in and engage with their distance learning lessons from SFUSD, and giving them the opportunity to hang out with other kids, get healthy meals and snacks, and participate in literacy, STEM, and social emotional enrichment activities. Taking time away from screens to get out & play is an important component of a child's day at the Community Hubs. This week the kindergarten students at the Buena Vista Child Care Community Hub had a magical guest leader during their outdoor play time!
