SDSU School of Art and Design's Student Spotlight - Parker Heath Parker Heath is a senior studying studio art at the School of Art and Design. This native San Diegan says his work leans toward the abstract and surreal with expressionistic qualities. Though relatively new to experimenting with ceramics, Parker says he hopes to explore the craft even more, particularly creating cups and mugs using more unconventional approaches. In addition to being an artist and student, Parke...r is a champion, freestyle BMX athlete. Involved in the sport since he was a child, Parker believes his approach towards making art has been largely influenced by his background in freestyle BMX. My perspective on doing certain tricks on certain obstacles is very similar in the same way I approach composing certain colors and forms either two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally, said Parker. Thank you for sharing your work with us, Parker, and for bringing your creativity, perspective, and experience to the School of Art and Design! PHOTOGRAPHER: @elle_em_be

Join us on Thursday, October 22,5:30 6:45pm, for the Amplify: Practicing Solidarity lecture series with Artists Postcommodity *** Email [email protected] for Zoom link *** Hosted by CSU Humboldt, CSU Long Beach, and Fresno State. ... Amplify: Practicing Solidarity is organized by Professor Amy Sanchez Arteaga. This event is produced by ConSortiUm, a collaborative project of art museums and galleries from the California State University (CSU) system. Additional events are sponsored by the School of Art + Design and the Michele Schlect Visiting Artist Fund. About Postcommodity: Postcommodity is an interdisciplinary arts collective comprised of Cristóbal Martínez, and Kade L. Twist. Postcommodity’s art functions as a shared Indigenous lens and voice to engage the assaultive manifestations of the global market and its supporting institutions, public perceptions, beliefs, and individual actions that comprise the ever-expanding, multinational, multiracial, and multiethnic colonizing force that is defining the 21st Century through ever-increasing velocities and complex forms of violence. Postcommodity works to forge new metaphors capable of rationalizing our shared experiences within this increasingly challenging contemporary environment; promote a constructive discourse that challenges the social, political and economic processes that are destabilizing communities and geographies; and connect Indigenous narratives of cultural self-determination with the broader public sphere
