This afternoon, Monday, February 22, beginning at 1:00pm, the City Council will consider defunding our police. Whether called 'reallocating," "reimagining," or "realigning," the disastrous results will be the same: reduced emergency response time, escalating violent crime, and San Diego's fall from being one of the safest big cities in America. It is critically important that our City leaders hear how YOU feel about that. For the safety of our region and all that we hold dea...r, make your voice heard by commenting at today's City Council meeting held on Zoom. It will make all the difference for the safety of San Diego. Here's what to do: At 12:45pm Monday (TODAY), click this link (https://sandiego.zoomgov.com/j/1601405223) to JOIN THE ZOOM CALL. You will not be on video. Wait until Item #601 Fiscal Year 2021 Mid-Year Budget Monitoring Report is called, and then quickly raise your hand by tapping the "Raise Your Hand" button on your computer, tablet, or Smartphone. Item # 601 is currently second on the docket, but that could change. Please listen to the proceedings until your name is called. When the Clerk indicates it is your turn to speak, click the unmute prompt that will appear on your screen. Introduce yourself thanking the Councilmembers for the opportunity to speak. You may wish to say you are a resident or business owner in San Diego, or a parent raising your children here, what neighborhood you live or work in, or other general descriptor that suits you. You do not need to identify your employer or any other affiliation. Proponents of defunding are expected to attend in large numbers at the meeting. Do not be intimidated by their presence or upset by what they say. Your voice matters, and your voice will be respected. If you are unable to attend this virtual meeting, you are warmly welcomed to copy and submit any of the messages below (and/or express your personal experiences and perspective in your own words) at this link: https://www.sandiego.gov/city-clerk/agenda-comment-form Comments received prior to the meeting are reviewed by the Council Members. Your written comments will make a difference, though your VOICE DURING THE ZOOM CALL will be the most effective. It will also boost the morale of the police officers at this virtual meeting."
