Full story in bio!! NEW YORK (June 21, 2021) Continuing its deep commitment to growing and elevating the sport of soccer throughout North America, Major League Soccer today announced plans to launch a new professional league in 2022 that will complete the player pathway, from the youth development platform MLS NEXT to the professional ranks, while also bringing the excitement and passion of professional soccer to cities that currently do not have a professional soccer team.... Establishing this new league will provide an integral step in the professional player pathway, accelerating the development of elite talent by providing a highly competitive environment for rising stars to compete alongside established professional players. With a record high of 20 percent of MLS roster slots now occupied by players who were developed through MLS club academies, MLS NEXT and the new league will provide even greater opportunities to players to participate for the first team. The creation of a new league will provide MLS clubs with the optimal environment to produce the next generation of players and more opportunities for talented young players. TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League (USL) announced today that the Southwest Division has chosen to forgo play in the 2021 USL League Two season. The decision to forgo the season has been made by the USL in conjunction with the Southwest Division clubs with the interest of players, coaches and staff’s safety top of mind. After careful consideration around the impacts of COVID-19, the Southwest Division has chosen to forgo the 2021 season with the utmost support from the U...nited Soccer League, said Joel Nash, Vice President of USL League Two. With COVID-related challenges such as venue availability, local health statistics and travel mandates, the Southwest Division does not see a safe path to play for the 2021 season and therefore has chosen to take a step back to keep all players, coaches and staff safe during this time. We fully expect to see the return of the Southwest Division for the 2022 season and we look forward to welcoming them back onto the pitch. The Southwest Division is comprised of FC Golden State Force, Project 51O, San Francisco City FC, San Francisco Glens SC, Santa Cruz Breakers FC, Southern California Seahorses and Ventura County Fusion. Further information regarding play for the 2021 season will be released in the coming weeks.
