Join Library Explorers There is still room to join Library Explorers, San Mateo County Libraries’ free, in-library enrichment camp for students in rising kindergarten through 5th grade. In Library Explorers, youth will learn through hands-on STEAM experiences. They will get to practice their reading, math, and socio-emotional skills--while having fun--in preparation for the 2021-2022 school year. From June through July, Library Explorers will be held at the Brisbane, East Palo Alto, and North Fair Oaks Libraries from 10:00a-12:00p and 2:00-4:00p, Monday through Wednesdays. Interested in trying an event as a prospective member, email [email protected] Father's Day is coming up, and what better way to show Dad (or Grandpa) you care than with some personalized artwork! Resist art is great because it turns out looking amazing regardless of artistic ability--even a baby can smear finger paint over the canvas, then you can peel the decal off to reveal the hidden image. Please comment with which image you would like on your ch...ild's canvas (A-J in the follwing album; you may add a baby carrier to any forward-facing dad). If you don't see your family members represented, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate. Materials: -(included) Canvas, prepared with removable decal of your choice -(included upon requiest) Paint: NOT watercolors as they will bleed under the decal. Finger paints, tempera paints, acryllic paints, paint sticks, and paint pens all work great. Older kids enjoy using mixed media--we've even used glitter glue! Paint and paintbrush will only be included if requested in your RSVP comment; it will be washable, non-toxic tempera paint and a toddler-friendly paintbrush. Instructions: 1. Smooth decal onto the canvas to make sure it's fully adhered 2. (Optional) For absolute best results paint white over all edges of the decal and let dry. This will prevent other colors from bleeding underneath. 3. Have your child paint the canvas, encouraging them to cover all the white space around the decal. If they rinse a their paintbrush have them dry it before dipping in a new color (if the paint gets too wet it may bleed under the decal). 4. Let the paint mostly dry--so it wont easily smudge, but is still a little tacky--then carefully peel off the decal the reveal the hidden image. Your child will be amazed! Let it dry completely and display for Father's Day!
