TOOL TUESDAYS: Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge. If you are having shifting problems and adjusting the limit screw or barrel adjuster isn’t working, your derailleur might be out of alignment. A derailleur hanger is this little piece of metal that your derailleur hangs off of, that moves your chain through your gears. When it’s severely damaged, you should replace it. But if it’s just a little bent, you can straighten it.
