Hello, my name is Jamaar, owner of Savvy House Coffee Bar in Elk Grove, Ca. Our cafe is a half black owned business created from ground up by my wife and I. I am a Sacramento native, raised in Natomas, Rosemont South Sac and currently residing in Elk Grove! I graduated high school at Laguna Creek back in 1999! (Go Cardinals) I also lived in Salinas for one year of my life... that was an interesting experience. My coffee journey started when my wife and I moved to Oakland, C...a for a few years. The first job I landed was at a coffee shop that was about to open up. I started making music around 1997 and started taking it seriously around 2013. I set up a tour and put together shows and performed thru 2016. As I got more serious with music, the music industry became less appealing. I enjoyed the music production and performance but when it came the business side of things, I was a lot less intrigued. My vision was big but my resources were small so things kind of fizzled out. After a few dead end jobs in 2017, I started doing research to invest in a coffee shop. After months of planning, studying coffee and looking for locations, we found a nice little space in a great part of the town we live in. Elk Grove! We opened doors for business on March 31, 2018. In my short span of life so far, I’ve failed many times. I’ve hit rock bottom more than once and I’ve been down to nothing with little to no hope of how to move forward. There have been times I felt like no one would hire me. There were times I felt like giving up was an easier option. It’s crazy to think that at anytime I would’ve gave up, I wouldn’t have seen the potential and greatness that lies within me. I’ve always kept my circle small and my family close. That small circle of family and friends keep me grounded, keep me loved and supported! My overall success is an absolute affect of the people who were there for me and never gave up on me. I say all this because I’m sure there’s someone at rock bottom but they believe in themself. Don’t lose that feeling. Put positive energy out there.
