This herd of elephants are from KavangoZambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, where the international borders of five countries converge: Namibia (one of our 6 Adopt An Acre sites), Angola, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. The Kunene region in Namibia is a vital corridor for mirgratory species like elephants. When you Adopt an Acre you are protecting this habitat and the animals that depend on it to survive. Donate today: www.savenature.org/content/adopt%20an%20acre/Kunene

Diversity, one of the most amazing things about insects!

Answer to yesterday's quiz: Surprise it's grasshoppers. Eastern Lubber Grasshoppers bury their eggs in the ground, much like sea turtles, where there eggs stay safe during the winter. When they hatch the next spring, the babies have to dig their way to the surface. Their red exoskeleton will turn black after several hours when it gets hard.

Hop on over to our Etsy page to get your very own SaveNature face mask! (not this one that our little lubber grasshopper wanted to hang out on) https://www.etsy.com/li/824953644/savenatureorg-face-masks If you don't need any more face masks at this time, you can still help support our education animals during the Covid crisis by donating to our animal care fund. Since the onset of the pandemic our capacity to present our education programs has been greatly reduced, but the many animals in our lab still need to be cared for! We are asking for your support to ensure that our animals get the proper care that they require and deserve after inspiring children around the bay area for the last 30 years. http://savenature.org/content/donate/

This proves insects are always a source of inspiration for all types of projects. By the way, beetles are one of the largest groups of insects, with over 400,000 named species.

One of the cool things about insects is that due to their size you can make great discoveries anywhere, including in your backyard. Giving credit to these scientists persistence and ingenuity.

Another mass insect assembly.....I’m sure there are other assembly spots around the country. Not everyone realizes they are actually beetles, true name ladybird beetles. Good to have in the garden and another species that uses warning coloration.
