As I drove to the Alviso Boys & Girls Club I was filled with good, loving memories. When I was younger I would run from my house to the Southside Clubhouse located in the cafeteria of Davis Jr. High. Excited to play ping pong, basketball, and indoor baseball with a wiffle ball bat I was one of the first members to what is now the Levin Clubhouse. It all came back as I carried my educational supplies across the gymnasium and caught a whiff of the wooden floors, and when the ki...ds come out and I see all the different ethnicities. It reminds me of what I grew up with and what I want for Saved By Nature. It makes me feel at home. Today we kicked off the Boys & Girls Club 3rd Annual Summer Science Project! A month long of high quality interactive environmental education we have partnered with some of the best environmental education departments in our field to captivate and provide a life changing memorable experience for about 100 day campers! They learn about salmon and trout, Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge, the importance of open space, and what a watershed is. And on Friday, they get a special treat and to meet live birds and raptors and maybe even an opposum. -SBN Founder, Richard Tejeda Thank you to Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority Valley Water W.E.R.C. If we can pry it from the hands of our Executive Director then you just might see this piece in our 1st ever upcoming fundraiser and auction in October. It came out beautifully, wrapped in manly pink by the magic hands of 15 year old Gabriel Tejeda who is also an origami master, the spiral decoration gives it a unique look. #rosequartz #lovecrystal #hiketreasures #giftsfromnature

Hiking treasure for healing and love! Where’s all our geology nerds! Remember that rock we found while on a hike in the diggings of wild boar? It’s turns out it was rose quartz! We cleaned it up and plan to make a necklace but before we do we wanted to charge its energy. So far from what we’ve researched we have soaked it in sea salt, buried it back in the earth, gave it morning sunlight and tonight we plan to do our final step which is to purify and charge it with tonight’s... full moon. You can put your stones in a safe place outdoors or on a windowsill. Leave your crystal or rose quartz under the light of the moon overnight. Retrieve your stones in the morning and use them in your practice. * Moonlight won’t damage the color of your rose quartz. * In crystal healing communities, moonlight is used to add vibrations to a stone. Healing Properties Rose quartz is often referred to as the "Love Stone" because of strong vibrations of love, joy, acceptance, and emotional healing. It is very helpful to believers when used in the home to heal relationships and bring unity. It works on the Heart, Higher Heart, and Thymus chakras, and when used regularly is said to improve all aspects of life. Who should wear rose quartz? People who lack love in their marriage should wear this substitute. What does rose quartz attract? Rose quartz can be used to attract love. Quick ladies go grab your crystals! Description Rose quartz is a highly favored and recognizable type of quartz for its soft pink coloring. It is also a very hardy stone, known to be among the toughest substances that exist. This variety of quartz is very common and found in abundance all over the world. Physical Properties Crystal System Hexagonal Colors Pink Luster Vitreous Diaphaneity Transparent Streak Colorless Hardness 7 Tenacity Brittle Cleavage None Fracture Conchoidal Density 2.66 g/cm3

We just had our meeting with the Boys & Girls Club (BGC) and our Summer Science Project is an all go! For the entire month of July Saved by Nature, San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority Valley Water and W.E.R.C. will visit 4 different clubhouses in Alviso and East and South San Jose to bring high quality environmental education. Richard Tejeda, founder of Saved by Nature is Alumni of the Boys & Girls Club. He says, When I was 10 years old... the BGC took me to San Jose Family Camp at Yosemite, and it was something I remembered until I returned at the age of 25. I remember swimming with rainbow trout and playing war games with wet tennis balls in the Tuolumne River. Best time of my life! The kids don’t get to go anymore so in 2018 I created the Summer Science Project in hopes of having an impact in their lives that way. In addition to this amazing multi-agency collaboration I am working hard to bring the San Jose Family Camp program back for the BGC and in 2022 it just might happen. I ask that you join us in making a difference in the lives of these underrepresented kids and become a member of Saved by Nature so that we may continue to coordinate cool programs like this and accomplish even more. Would you like to help elevate our diverse community? Would you like to learn about the natural world around you? Did you know that volunteering is an excellent way to get to know the profession of teaching people about nature, in addition to gaining valuable experience for future employment? It is important that everyone feel welcome and the best way to do this is for our community to see people who represent them volunteering and working in nature education. We would love y...our help reaching our goals of providing guided hikes and experiences for first-time park visitors. You don’t need any experience to volunteer with us. You don’t have to decide now. Join us for our first virtual volunteer orientation and training on Saturday November 14, 2020 at 10:00am. We’ve adjusted Fright Nights a bit to help dispel some common myths about bats and in acknowledgment of Bat Conservation International #batweek Join us and our partners Ulistac Natural Area and W.E.R.C. in celebration of Bat Week! How do you feel about bats? Are they scary creatures? Did you know there are 16 different species found here in the San Francisco Bay? You can read more about our local bats in this article by Open Space Authority https://rb.gy/cdewn4... Bats play an important role in our environment and economy. Consuming their body weight of insects every night they enjoy drinking nectar. They unknowingly pollinate and those that eat seeds disperse them at night as they fly long distances propagating many kinds of our favorite plants and fruit trees. They’re amazing animals! Come learn more about them in this fun and rare, live bat presentation by Incredible Bats! Belted Kingfisher! She was perched quite far back on the Guadalupe river yesterday and in shadow, so the quality of the photos is far from great. I have spotted... this female on the Guadalupe river across from Ulistac a few times over the last year, so she clearly sticks to this area quite a bit. I wouldn't have noticed her at all had she not been loudly calling out- a sound that, to me, is like that of an odd woodpecker.
