The City of Santa Rosa, following direction from the CDC and the California Department of Public Health, has suspended all special events through the end of 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This, unfortunately, means we will have to cancel the 2020 Santa Rosa Marathon. While upsetting, this is a decision that we fully support, as the safety of our running community is our top priority. So, what now? We know you were just as excited to run as we were to produce the even...t. Even though we can’t run together, we still want to do everything in our power to give you a positive and healthy running experience this year, so we're turning the Santa Rosa Marathon into a virtual event! We anticipate a high email volume, so response times may be delayed, but we'll reply as soon as possible. As California starts the slow process of reopening the state, Governor Newsom's plan to reopen has just recently entered stage 2 of the 4-stage plan. With the ban on large gatherings and events expected to remain in place until stage 4, we've been forced to reschedule the 2020 Santa Rosa Marathon, originally scheduled for August 29th & 30th, to November 21st & 22nd. This decision was not taken lightly, but our priority lies with the safety of our running community, from all o...f our participants to those who put on the events. The entire country is still being impacted by this pandemic, but we want to provide the best experience we can under these difficult circumstances, so we've created these options for you: - Remain registered for the November event. No action is required on your end if you choose this option; OR - If the new date doesn't fit your schedule, you can join the Santa Rosa Marathon Virtual Run! We'll ship your goodie bag items tech hoodie (half/full), tech tee (5K/10K), medal, and bib direct to your door starting mid September to the address you provide in this form: https://bit.ly/3ddxzcb. Half/full marathon registrants will receive a voucher to pick up their bottle of wine at the 2021 event as well. If your package is returned back to our office because of an incorrect address, we won't be able to reship it. Additionally, please make sure you've selected the right swag size by checking out the sizing guide: https://bit.ly/35yqOiq. If necessary, update your selection in your EnMotive account by August 31st here: http://bit.ly/2vwyFPS. Once your swag size and shipping address are confirmed, simply pick the ideal day to complete the virtual run, then submit your time to receive an official finisher's certificate! To do so, log in to your EnMotive account, find Santa Rosa Marathon on the "Upcoming Races" page, click Log Result, enter your time, and download your certificate. There's no deadline to complete the run. You'll receive your goodie bag regardless of if or when you submit your time. If you don't take any action at all by August 31st, your registration will automatically be moved to the rescheduled date. We can't refund or defer everyone to 2021 because we've already spent most of the money on everything we needed to produce this year's event, from race swag to permits and planning. Strength training can help you become a stronger, faster runner, and can even help you lessen your chance of injury. Here's a list of exercises you can do at home with very little equipment.

You've already accomplished so much don't forget that!

Do you remember when running wasn't as natural for you as it is now? Remember how awful the first mile or two used to be? Or, how some days you question if you should even go for a run? NON-RUNNERS DON'T KNOW THIS! For many, it probably seems like you're just a natural runner and didn't have to work as hard to be where you are today. Do your friends, family, and followers a HUGE favor and share your reality!... Let them in on your challenges Relate to them - yes, running sucks. But, keep going! Provide them with encouraging messaging and tips to make it suck a little less. As runners, we know our previous-self is proud of the person we are today. Help them to #ReleasetheRunner and feel this same sense of accomplishment!

Running at a distance isn't the only safety measure to keep in mind these days. Let’s share some responsible running tips with those who have recently decided to #ReleasetheRunner! With many paths or common running routes/trails closed, what are some places you would suggest? Let them know! 1 Share go-to spots or resources for finding safe routes in your area! ... 2 Share tips for staying visible! 3 Invite your friends to text you when they run so you know they're safe! Who knows, you may end up finding a new go-to route yourself!

Everyone has overcome a barrier - physical or mental - to run. But not everyone understands this. Help your friends to #ReleasetheRunner by understanding that many of the barriers they may face are meant to be overcome! 1 Share barriers you overcame 2 Provide some pro-tips 3 Invite your friends to give running a try!... Remember - for some, barriers may be as simple as learning the fundamentals and burying those scary memories of the mile run in elementary school gym class. For others, barriers can be overcoming the intimidation that can surround a sport like running where it seems like there is a requirement of a certain physique or pace. Whatever the barrier may be, there is a way to rise above!
