This past Sunday, we reverently listened to the opening hymn before the talks were given by members of the congregation. A member of the Bishopric then announced the closing hymn and asked us to join in singing. At first, I just assumed it was a mistake, and that he meant that we were to listen. But he then clarified that yes, we had just received permission to sing. Admittedly, the first verse was rather muted and mumbled as none of us were used to singing aloud and we... were all still wearing face masks. But by the fourth verse, I could hear, I could feel, the congregation joining together to worship in song once again. That one song brought the Spirit so strongly into our chapel. I didn’t even realize how much I had missed singing in church until then. And I know I’m not the only one who felt that way. I am so grateful for music and for the hymns that allow us to sing praises to our Savior. Sacred music has an essential role in our Sabbath worship and I have a testimony of the Spirit that comes when we sing together each Sunday.

Our Spanish Branch now has a Primary! The children meet together every Sunday to sing and learn about the gospel in both English and Spanish. Ashley Perez Sachs, mother to two and 2nd counselor in the Primary Presidency, shared this poignant message last week: We don't have to wait until our children confront difficult situations to teach them gospel principles. We should already be teaching them correct principles so that when they need to choose between good and evil,... they will choose to follow God. . #welcometoprimary #gospelprinciples #comeuntochrist #christlikeparenting #bienvenidosalaprimaria #criartushijosconelevangelio #seguiracristo #ramasantamaria7 #SM7Branch .

Brandon & Mindy Wayment from the Arroyo Grande Ward spoke today and shared some important spiritual thoughts and beautiful testimonies. Our Savior Jesus Christ encourages us to Follow Him and Hear Him and I testify that as we do this we will create a state of happiness around us that nothing can penetrate. I testify that we are all Ward missionaries!! We need to be mindful of the prompting of our Heavenly Father. We need to have an unlimited amount of seeds in our p...ockets and scatter them continuously throughout our day!! I testify that as we live our lives serving with all of our hearts those around us will notice we are peculiar people and gravitate toward us and inquire about the roots of our happiness. -Mindy Wayment God gives us challenges so that we can grow and come closer to him. D&C 4:4 For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layers up in stirs that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul.-Brandon Wayment

Message to Pismo Beach Ward from Sacrament meeting 1/17/21: I would like to take a moment to address the ward and ask you all to consider the concerning social and political environment we are in. We have recently witnessed disturbing and concerning political and social activity, unrest and violence. We appreciate our frontline workers including law enforcement officers and medical workers particularly our own Fred Mickel, Chandler Stewart, Bradley Hogan. Thank you all so mu...ch! Isn’t it wonderful to have representatives of the Lord as Prophets and Seers who express His words to us. In our most recent general conference, President Dallin H. Oaks referenced the anger and hatred" and "destructive behavior" in the current political environment. The title of President Oaks message was Love your Enemies. He said, The Lord’s teachings are for eternity and for all of God’s children. Quoting President Oaks: Knowing that we are all children of God gives us a divine vision of the worth of all others and the will and ability to rise above prejudice and racism....the Lord has taught me that it is possible to obey and seek to improve our nation’s laws and also to love our adversaries and our enemies...He gave this command to love. In addition, this week the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles sent a message expressing "great concern" over the "political and cultural divisions" in our country. Our leaders condemn violence and lawless behavior during times of unrest. They invited members "to be united in our commitment to the Savior, Jesus Christ, and His teachings" and "no political or other affiliation should supersede that covenant and sacred responsibility." I encourage you to reread the message by President Oaks and also read the message of peace extended by the First Presidency. I am grateful for divine revelation and guidance that we receive through Prophets and Apostles in our day. I bear testimony of their inspired counsel and it is this message of hope and love that will continue to instill peace within our hearts. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. Today at Brigham Young University I shared a message about important issues of our day, including overcoming racism. Personal attitudes and official practices ...of racism are not consistent with the revealed word of God. We know that God created all mortals and we are all children of God. The challenge of racism is not a new one, but recent events have precipitated the current discussion. The shocking police-produced death of George Floyd in Minnesota last May was surely a trigger for nationwide protests in the United States, whose momentum was carried forward under the message of ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Of course Black lives matter! That is an eternal truth all reasonable people should support. Dear friends, let us all heed President Russell M. Nelson's call to repent, to change, and to improve. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ can unite and bring peace to people of all races and nationalities. We who believe in that gospelwhatever our originsmust unite in love of each other and of our Savior, Jesus Christ. President Dallin H. Oaks Read full address here: https://bit.ly/34vQrBi Artwork: used with permission from the artist Amber Eldredge

What does this look like for you? In what ways can we speak more of Him? Are we more readily prepared to speak of every other quality that makes us who we are? The most eternal quality we all share is we are all children of a Heavenly Father. May we never forget it, and always share it.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Santa Maria, CA Stake News 25.10.2020

I have spoken of Israel in at least 378 of the more than 800 messages I have delivered during my 36 years as an Apostle. So imagine my delight when I recently l...earned that one of the Hebraic meanings of the word Israel is let God prevail. Thus, the very name of Israel refers to a person who is willing to let God prevail in his or her life. That concept stirs my soul! When your greatest desire is to let God prevail, to be part of Israel, so many decisions become easier. So many issues become non-issues! You know how best to groom yourself. You know what to watch and read, where to spend your time, and with whom to associate. You know what you want to accomplish. You know the kind of person you really want to become. Each of us has a divine potential because each is a child of God. Each is equal in His eyes. The implications of this truth are profound. Brothers and sisters, please listen carefully to what I am about to say. God does not love one race more than another. His doctrine on this matter is clear. He invites all to come unto Him, black and white, bond and free, male and female, (2 Nephi 26:33). The question for each of us, regardless of race, is the same. Are you willing to let God prevail in your life? As you study your scriptures during the next six months, I encourage you to make a list of all that the Lord has promised He will do for covenant Israel. I think you will be astounded! Ponder these promises. Talk about them with your family and friends. Then live and watch for these promises to be fulfilled in your own life. #GeneralConference
