The grasslands are looking better already! Our seasonal restoration field crew has been hard at work treating invasive weeds across The Preserve as part of the Conservancy’s Grasslands Initiative. Feel free to say hello and ask them about the work they’re doing as you see them around The Preserve over the next several months. The third and final member of our 2021 field crew is Kevin! . . . Hi my name is Kevin. I was recently part of the Watershed Stewardship Program in Santa... Barbara where I was introduced into the world of environmental restoration. I’m excited to be part of the field crew this year to learn more about weed management and to enjoy the natural beauty of The Preserve! In my free time, I enjoy surfing and hiking. . . . #conservation #grasslands #ecology #biodiversity #fieldwork #workoutside #weedwarrior See more

As we continue to introduce our 2021 seasonal restoration field crew they continue to remove invasive weeds from The Preserve. Their work is part of the Conservancy’s Grasslands Initiative and helps to restore and maintain healthy native grasslands throughout The Preserve. Next up we’d like to introduce Mary! . . . I am excited to spend this field season with the SLC learning about the local landscape and all that it has to offer. I am especially looking forward to seeing how... the conservancy works to maintain a healthy ecosystem that includes humans and their inevitable influence by design, as opposed to removing them from the ecosystem. I feel that educating people about their inextricable role in the ecosystem that surrounds them is the most important step toward a healthy planet, and so I am honored to be a part of this project integrating natural landscape and habitat into a context that native plants and animals would otherwise be excluded from. I love the outdoors and all the native plants that we have here, so I can’t wait to spend my days out among the trees and grasses, doing my best to create and maintain the important habitats of our unique and biodiverse area. . . . #conservation #ecology #fieldwork #grasslands #workoutside #weedwarrior See more

We’re very excited to introduce our 2021 seasonal restoration field crew! A key part of the Conservancy’s Grasslands Initiative, they started in early February and have already made a dent in the weeds on The Preserve. This week you’ll get a chance to meet all three of them as they each tell a little bit about themselves. First up is Natalie! . . . Hello! I am an environmental steward passionate about terrestrial and coastal resource management. Over the past two years I have... contributed to watershed restoration work in Hawai’i, Louisiana, and southern California. I am eager to apply my skills to California’s unique Central Coast throughout the upcoming field season! Outside of work, I love hiking, SCUBA diving, and cooking locally inspired dishes. . . . #conservation #fieldwork #ecology #weedwarrior #workoutside See more
