Everyone should check their smoke alarms twice a year at the start and end of daylight savings! Change your clocks tonight before going to sleep and test your smoke alarms. Check the date too. If it is older than ten years, replace it! NEED HELP? If you need assistance obtaining and/or installing smoke alarms in your home, visit www.fire.escondido.org and follow the link to the San Diego Red Cross "Sound the Alarm" program or our "Smoke Alarms for Senior Citizens" program.... A vegetation fire started at 3:05 pm today in the area of Bear Valley Road and Royal Crest Drive. The fire has been contained at about 1/4 acre. Bear Valley Road is closed in both directions in that area to protect water supply lines and the firefighters who will be working for about another hour mopping up hotspots. Six Escondido Firefighters assigned to an OES Brush Engine Strike Team are on their way home after being relieved last night by a replacement crew. This group (Strike Team Leader, Strike Team Leader Trainee, and Engine Crew) were able to get a good night’s sleep last night and hit the road back home with the rest of the strike team members. They were deployed on 8/14, worked three days at the Lake Fire, then three days at the Hosler Fire, then seven days at the River Fire and then three days at the Sheep Fire. They should be back home by this evening. The replacement crews on the OES brush Engines are on the fire line today at the Sheep Fire and will likely be in Northern California for several more days. #welcomehome #escondidofire #CaliforniaWildfires
