ALL fireworks, even the safe and sane variety, are illegal in the City of Santa Cruz. WHY? California's drought and the extreme threat of fire this summer, an...d fireworks only puts communities at higher risk of wildfire. Don't be the reason for the next CZU fire. A citywide Safety Enhancement Zone will be in effect from 8 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, through 8 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2021. The safety enhancement designation authorizes the tripling of fees for violations of the City's municipal code, such as the discharge of fireworks, littering, and public consumption of alcohol. Our Dispatch has received numerous reports of illegal fireworks throughout the City. Patrol teams will be busy responding to a multitude of calls for service and will respond to illegal fireworks complaints. | Here's how you can help. Use 9-1-1 lines for emergencies only. When reporting fireworks, call 831-471-1131. When contacting Dispatch, provide as much information as possible, including the exact location and a detailed description of the subject(s) using illegal fireworks. Remember that anyone setting off fireworks is risking starting a wildfire. ALL fireworks that leave the ground or explode are ILLEGAL, and those who use them could face up to a $1,000 fine or more. Let's have a safe and fun 4th of July holiday!
