How can an injured party preserve the integrity of their bodily injury claim? Don’t discuss the incident with the other party or the other party’s insurance. Statements made following the incident can be used against the claimant later. Seek immediate medical attention. Documentation of injuries is essential to recovery of damages. A delay in care can have a negative impact on the claim.... Memorialize the sequence of events. This includes written notes or a diary. What happened and how the accident occurred fades over time. Take precautionary steps to preserve proof and make sure essential proof is not lost or altered. For example, repair work should not be done until detailed photos of property damage have been taken; extract data from black box, dash cam, or surveillance; take photos of bodily injuries; and preserve torn clothing. Books I read in May! What did you read? Any favorites or recommendations? If you’re looking for a fun read, definitely go for Finlay Donovan is Killing It. A single mom is accidentally hired as a hit-woman and the babysitter becomes her accomplice... If you’re in a reading rut, this book will definitely get you out of it! A hilarious page turner. May have been my favorite of the four. I also really enjoyed Fredrik Blackman’s new novel Anxious People. It was intense in the b...eginning, but somehow ended up being a heart-warming love story. Morgan Jerkin’s novel Caul Baby describes a Harlem family that has a magic healing power and all the secrets, betrayals, and issues that go along with it. Did you know that an employer may be liable for an employee’s negligent act? If the negligent act is committed while under the course and scope of employment, the employer is responsible for the damages just as if the employer personally committed the act. Interview with Conflict Resolution Center of Santa Cruz! Conflict Resolution Center of Santa Cruz is a local Santa Cruz nonprofit that offers community, workplace, small claims, parent-teen, and divorce mediation. Additionally, Conflict Resolution Center provides conflict management skills trainings, restorative justice programs, and group facilitation. Conflict Resolution Center also assists BOTH landlords and renters in regards to the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act (SB91). Did you know that I volunteer for Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County and the Santa Cruz County Bar Association? I’ve been a Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County Board member for 10 years. Over the years I’ve planned events on teen dating violence, sexual harassment and female farm laborers, Trump era immigration policies, the Angela Davis trial, storytelling and the law, the women’s liberation movement of the 1960’s, and more! Additionally, this year I’m volunteering for t...he Santa Cruz County Bar Association on the Continuing Legal Education Committee. I recently helped plan an event on the cross-examination of adverse expert witnesses and I am currently working on an event on race and justice in America. I really think event planning is fun and I love to help educate the Santa Cruz community. I truly enjoy it!
