SCC Office of Women's Policy 20.01.2021

The first SCC Commission on the Status of Women meeting of 2021 was a welcome break from feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and disappointed. Instead, I got to spend... a few hours last night with incredible leaders from across Santa Clara County, OWP, the County Clerk of the Board, and the Office of the County Executive. We spent our time planning events and activities that would serve womxn, youth, and their families across the county. Individually, we stretched our civic engagement muscles. Together, we deepened our connections to each other and our communities. We also wished farewell to Commissioner Shay Franco-Clausen, who served as the Chair before I took over the role in September 2020. With a heavy heart, we say goodbye, and with so much pride and excitement, we say CONGRATULATIONS and we know you'll be incredible wherever you go! Throwback to June 2020 when Adelina Tancioco and I ran a 7-day virtual Pop Up Healing event and DJ Shugga Shay was live and in full effect for several days of the event. Attached are the slides I put together with Jennifer Briscoe and Lisset Nevárez to thank Shay for all of her years of love and service to the community. Much love, Shay! We'll keep following your good works since we know you #cantstopwontstop! Nancy Bremeau SCC Office of Women's Policy #wonderwomxnwinning #woc #womeninleadership #csw

We The People, Voting Rights and You The Santa Clara Superior Court Announces Voting Education Initiative In support of the Superior Court’s continued dedication to educating the public and connecting with the community we serve, the Court Community Outreach Committee is pleased to announce a new voting educational initiative We The People, Voting Rights and You. This effort will begin today, September 22, in recognition of National Voter Registration Day, a non-partisan ...civic holiday celebrating our democracy. This effort will highlight how the Constitution protects a citizen’s right to vote once they are 18, regardless of race (15th amendment), sex (19th amendment), or age (26th amendment). On the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, we celebrate not only a woman’s right to vote, but every adult citizen’s right to vote and have a voice in our democracy, regardless of gender, race or age, said Judge Julia Alloggiamento, Chair of the Court Community Outreach Committee. This effort does not advocate for, or link to, any specific candidate or political message. Rather, it is an educational outreach program to inform the community of their Constitutional right to vote and how to exercise that right. This initiative will include non-partisan, informative public service announcements from judicial officers and court and community leaders. These messages will be presented in a variety of languages to celebrate the diversity of our community and educate all our citizens. The Court is grateful to the Santa Clara County Office of Women’s Policy, Silicon Valley Urban Debate League, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education for their support in promoting the Court’s neutral, non-partisan, educational message to people the Court may not otherwise reach. We mourn today collectively the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a feminist icon, a trailblazer, and a crusader who fought for all of us! Today (maybe the whole weekend) is for processing and crying. Next week is for organizing and continuing the work she started to protect and promote gender equity. https://www.cnn.com//ruth-bader-ginsburg-death-/index.html
