This has been a heart breaking week for all of us in the CPOA. We lost a member of our family far too soon. Now, we would like to raise money to help his family in this incredibly trying time. Please help if you can spare anything. All proceeds go directly to the deputy's family. Our deepest condolences, well wishes, and prayers to his family and everyone dealing with this tragic loss. Thank you, Santa Clara County CPOA Board

This week is Nation Read Across America, the birthday of Dr. Seuss (March2nd). An initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. This awareness day calls all children and youth in every community across the United States to celebrate reading. It encourages them to read where ever they are. Today your SCCCPOA was honored to be a part of this great event. We volunteered to read books to students and donated prizes to our adopted school Santee Elementary. These kids love to read and are on the path to great things!

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety’s Public Safety Officers Association will be sponsoring a support group for all personnel in the Dispatch, EMS, Fire and Law-Enforcement professions that would like a safe and confidential place to seek support for the trauma they have sustained due to stressors of their career. This group provides you access to individuals that understand your career and the stressors that you are coping with. There is no cost to participate in this group.

The Santa Clara County Correctional Peace Officers Association (CPOA) and the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Santa Clara County (DSA) are joining together in an effort to raise money for one of our members who had to say her last goodbyes to two of her brothers within a month of each other. Our goal is to help Deputy Saelee raise at least $5,000 to offset some of the fees and costs associated to not one, but two funerals back to back. No one anticipates the loss of a family ...member, let alone two within such a short time frame. The CPOA and the DSA care deeply for our member and her family, especially during this time of loss. Deputy Saelee began her career in Law Enforcement graduating from the Santa Clara County's Correctional Academy in June of 2016. Deputy Saelee continued within the Sheriff's Office and graduated from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Enforcement Academy in March of 2019. Deputy Saelee is halfway through the Field Training Program and on her way to becoming a Patrol Deputy. Deputy Saelee is well respected by her peers from both the CPOA and DSA having now worked on both sides of the department. In late December of 2019, Deputy Saelee had to say goodbye to her brother James (36). Now, in January of 2020, less than a month later, Deputy Saelee is dealing with the loss of another brother, Tommy (31). Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Saelee and her family. Please consider making a donation to help this family in their time of need. Thank you for reading and please share this gofundme link with your family and friends. https://www.gofundme.com/f/1viefe5dhc

Santa Clara County CPOA was honored today to be part of our adopted schools celebration. Santee Elementary had 50 students who surpassed their reading goals and were awarded a pizza movie party! Your CPOA showed up with pizza and some goodies from our department. These kids worked hard and we wanted them to be recognized. Great job Santee Elementary!

NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY (L.E.A.D.) On January 9th, 2020, partnering organizations in support of law enforcement officers nationwide will promote National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.). In light of recent negativity directed toward law enforcement nationally, there is a need to show law enforcement officers that our citizens recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, in public service to us all. On January 9th of ...each year, we will call our nation’s citizens to action in support of law enforcement. Those citizens who appreciate law enforcement and are discouraged about the negative attention being given to law enforcement are encouraged to take time on January 9th to show their support. Our citizens can show their support in a number of ways: Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement. Send a card of support to your local police department or state agency. Share a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media. Ask children in your community to write letters in support of law enforcement. Participate in Project Blue Light - Proudly display your blue light in support of law enforcement. Organize an event or a rally in support of your law enforcement officers. Advertise your support through local media outlets/billboards. Post the public service announcement supplied by C.O.P.S. to your organization’s webpage or social media pages. Coordinate and/or participate in a Blue Blood Drive. Most importantly, if you see a police officer, thank a police officer.
