Stake Spotlight! Bishop Lindeman of the Crystal Springs 1st Ward Thanks Bishop! My name is Neil Lindeman. I live in San Bruno and have been serving as bishop of the Crystal Springs 1st Ward (which runs along the east side of the Peninsula from Brisbane to northern San Mateo) since late 2017. ... I grew up in Brigham City, Utah, as the oldest of five kids in my family, served for two years as a missionary in the Madrid region of Spain, then graduated from BYU before moving to Iowa for four years for graduate school. After Iowa, I worked as an editor for several years in Washington, DC. It was there that, just before moving to San Bruno in 2005, I met my future wife, Melissa. We’ve been married since 2006 and have three sons ages 12, 9, and 4. I am a professor in the English department of San Francisco State University, where I currently oversee the Professional Writing and Rhetoric program. I love music, both listening and performing (I play piano), and hiking and camping with my family. My main hobby is probably cookingI cook for my family just about every day and love to explore all the amazingly diverse international cuisines and grocery stores of the Bay Area. Serving as bishop has pushed me to prioritize the needs of others, which has made my life so much more fulfilling. I have also been blessed with a behind-the-scenes view of the valiant efforts so many make to live as disciples of our Savior. It is a sacred privilege that will inspire me long after my time as bishop comes to an end. See more

Stake Spotlight! Bishop Gilbert of the Half Moon Bay Ward Thank you Bishop! Hi everyone! My name is Aaron Gilbert and I was called to be Bishop of the Half Moon Bay Ward, a ward I was raised in, in 2018. ... I grew up on the coastside and I am now raising my family here. I played sports my entire youth, and was privileged to play football at San Jose State University, where I also received my B.S. in Biochemistry. I paused my collegiate career to serve a mission for the Church in Barcelona, Spain. I love the people of Spain and speaking the Spanish language and the food. I married my high school sweetheart Stacy, and we have 4 crazy kids. Professionally, I work for Hines @ Facebook as the Chief Plant Operator for their Wastewater Treatment System. If you ever want to hear a funny story about how I got into this career path, just ask me! As Bishop, I have learned how much God loves each and everyone of us. I also have an unbreakable testimony of the atonement of Jesus Christ and how much He wants to forgive us.

Stake Spotlight! Obispo Sanchez del Barrio El Camino Bishop Sanchez of the El Camino Ward! Thank you Bishop!... "Hi all, I’m Bishop Moises Sanchez. I have been serving as a Bishop in El Camino ward for approximately four years. I was born and raised in my country El Salvador in Central America. My parents became members of the church before they got married and I was raised with this beautiful gospel. I went to primary, young man, seminary and at 19 years old I served my mission in Guatemala Quetzaltenango for two years. After my mission I started college with a major in marketing, after two and half years in college I moved to the United States. I landed in Daly city, and I was member of the Spanish 6th ward for about a year, after I met my lovely wife in the Stake Center in San Bruno, I decided to move to El Camino ward. For me being in this country it has been a faithful challenge from my Heavenly Father. I did learn english here and I decided to continue my education after a long pause. I was called to serve as a Bishop in 2017 and it has been a beautiful experience to serve my brethren and my community. Also in 2018 I enrolled myself in BYU Pathway and after 3 semesters I was part of BYUI as an online student. Now I got my Front-End Web Development Certificate, and I am one class away from my Back-End Web Development Certificate and my AA Degree. I love to tell my kids that, we, Salvadoreans are gladiators because no matter the circumstances we never give up on our dreams, and we are capable to achieve our dreams with our Heavenly Father next to us. I love the Bay area; I have been here for fifteen years, and I love to serve Mi Gente Latina in this part of the World. As a Bishop I have so many responsibilities, and I couldn’t do it without my wife and family support, also my extended family has a big impact on me. I have a lot of love for the missionary work, I love the change and the impact of the gospel on each person. My favorite scriptures are Ether 12:27 and Isaiah 1:18, these two verses describe the personal relationship that I have with my Heavenly Father."

Stake Spotlight! Since it's Stake Conference weekend, President Fewkes is our spotlight! Thank you Pres Fewkes! Just a reminder, Virtual Stake Conference is tomorrow @ 10 am ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_eBg56rjOc "My name is Tim Fewkes and I’m currently serving as the Stake President of the San Mateo Stake. Together with other stake leaders, a stake president serves as a support and guiding hand for the congregations within his care. I was born in San Mateo but grew up in Sacramento. My father was baptized in New York through the influence of a Boy Scout friend, and my mother was raised in the colonies in northern Mexico established by church leaders shortly after the pioneers settled in Utah. I have 4 children, two of whom are currently serving missions - one in Kentucky and one in Puerto Rico. We love them, miss them, and are amazed at the strength that they have become to our family. We are very grateful to still have our youngest two at home and enjoy every day with them. My wife Karen and I have lived in the same congregation - Crystal Springs 1st ward - our entire married life of 22 years. Our ward members are family to us and have helped raise us. I work in technology leading teams of cloud and IT architects. During my personal time I like to read and learn new things. As a stake president I have been very blessed to see firsthand how people partner with the Savior to overcome difficulty, stretch, and grow. It is a real example to me of what is possible through His care and guidance."

"Jason Eggers, was called to serve as the Bishop for the Crystal Springs 2nd Ward in 2018. He grew up in Gilroy California, and served a full-time mission in Washington DC, prior to receiving a degree from BYU (Provo, UT) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and an MBA from the University of Utah. "Serving the local members of the church has helped grow my understanding and witness of God's love and plan for all His children, especially during difficult times. My current calling has helped deepen my commitment for living the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and this resolve has greatly blessed my friendships, my family relationships, and my life."

Who loves Missionaries?? Who thinks missionary work is just for full-time missionaries? Do you know Missionary centered, member supported? It’s been like that for forever. Guess what......... Now it’s, MEMBER centered, Missionary supported! What does that mean? Sister Lunt, serving a mission from San Bruno in Provo, UT, gives us some advice and encouragement! Hi everyone! My name is Sister Lunt and I am currently serving in the Utah, Provo mission! I was originally called to serve in the Chile, Santiago North mission and was there for 6 weeks before coming home due to Covid! I have been on my mission in total for a year now! I am from California and have moved quite a few times, but am currently from San Bruno! Member missionary focus: Some advice I would give to the members about missionary work is to follow the example of Jesus Christ is their lives! When they are living the way Christ is, their light will be stronger! And I would encourage members to talk more about Jesus Christ! The more we talk about him, the more we can relate to other people who believe in Him and it can lead into gospel conversations! A good way to do missionary work is to do it in natural ways, by being a friend. Thank you Sister Lunt! How are you going to do missionary work differently?

In order to make this page a success, we need your help! Each week, they hope to post a video on this page featuring members in various wards throughout the San Mateo Stake. Testimony from Sister Ollerton Out of all places, I was sent to Oklahoma. Oklahoma, with nothing in it. Nothing in it, except for a loving people who center themselves on Christ every day. In Oklahoma, I had the privilege of watching people change for the better as they grew closer to Christ. I thanked my Heavenly Father every single day, many times a day, for finding me worthy to represent my perfect Savior-- because I learned with each day how much I needed Him. My weaknes...ses were truly made strong to accomplish the work of the Lord and fulfill His purposes. It was only made possible through the merciful and infinite Atonement that I could live every day better than the day before. I learned that "repentance" is just another word for "change." Every time I correct my mistakes, it is thanks to Him that I can do so. I love Him, and I love my Heavenly Father, and I am thankful for His Holy Spirit for guiding me every step of the way. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen. Testimony of Janae Ollerton, March 2020

Hi Stake members! We thought it could be fun to Spotlight some our recent returned missionary’s from our Stake! First up Sister Anderson Hello, my name is Sister Kaylee Kai Anderson! I am 20 years old, went to BYUHawaii and served in the Philippines Olongapo Mission for the period of 13 months! Then we all got sent home due to COVID-19.. However, I still have hopes to be reassigned for the last portion of my mission!... Serving in the Philippines was the best experience of my whole life. We were so blessed with a challenging but fruitful mission. We were often faced with busy schedules filled with the most wonderful people and saw many baptisms. I think the thing that I loved most about serving was getting to know my God through these incredibly humble people. I sat on dirt floors crying with widows. I cried as I saw teenagers find their purpose and joy as they truly learned about their Savoir. I laughed and ate with countless amounts of members and interested people. I got to experience the love that our Lord has for His children. What a blessing that was. Everyday shaped me into a better person through the masterful hands of our Creator. There was not a day where we could have taught what we taught, or seen the miracles we saw, if what we were doing was not the work of God. We felt God speak through us by His Spirit, and we saw Him bless us and others as we followed His will and served His children. I loved my mission, and I am so grateful for the time I was given in the Philippines. Even if it was cut short, the blessing was the opportunity to have even served there. I can not say if I blessed the Philippines, but I can firmly say that the Lord blessed me through the people of the Philippines. For that, I am eternally grateful. I am so excited to now serve all of you in this stake!:) Ingat po kayo lagi. Mahal kayo ng Diyos. Sister Anderson

Looking to do service but don’t know how? This is easy and awesome! Anyone can participate! Even little kids! Reaching out to homebound/isolated seniors Hello San Mateo Stake! ... Here at Senior Coastsiders we are now delivering meals to over 170 older adults per day. Many of these people were already somewhat socially isolated but obviously now even more so. We are trying to include notes, jokes, or information in their bags at least once a week. With that goal in mind, we have created a new email address - [email protected] - and are inviting people to write brief emails letting isolated community members know that they aren't alone - or just sharing some uplifting information. We will cut off the top of the email so that personal addresses won't be shared. If you have kids, they can draw pictures and then you can send a photo of the picture. All ideas welcome! Thanks for considering! If you have any questions, you can call the Senior Coastsiders office at 650-726-9056.
