How amazing are these high schoolers!?! These big hearted volunteers showed up to help us prepare next month's 4,000 My Lab Challenge Boxes for our elementary kids. In these challenging times, it is inspiring to see our older students stepping up to care for our younger students!

Our elementary students are busy with this month's engineering challenges. If you listen very carefully, you might hear the sound of 4,000 cotton ball catapults launching across our community!

Does your elementary kiddo need a break from the computer? Crack open this month's Engineering Challenge box for some fun hands-on learning! Inside kids will discover the effects of potential and kinetic energy, currents, lift and gravity by building their own balloon hovercraft, catapult, paper helicopter and q-tip bow and arrow! We are grateful to T-Mobile for sponsoring this month's box! Because of the generous support of community partners like you, each month our district's nearly 4,000 elementary students get to unpack this gift of learning -- and laughter! A big thank you to Field Day Coffee, Engle & Associates Insurance Brokers, Garrett Orthodontics, Challenge & Fun, Sidewalk Market And Deli, and Tiffany Baldwin Photography for your generous support of our School Closure Impact Fund. As we kick off this new school year, you are bringing practical hope to our community's most vulnerable kids. #HeroesForKids

Ready for some more good news? Over the past few months, more than 400 members of our community have generously given $105,500 to support our district's most vulnerable students and families impacted by this pandemic. Thank you for bringing practical hope to these kids! Every single dollar is going directly to helping meet the basic needs of our students by providing technical support and equipment for in-home learning, specialized counseling and support services, food security, and safe housing. Together, we have made a big difference. But our work is not yet finished. As kids settle into this new school year, we are learning of new needs and kids who could use our help. Please join us in supporting our most vulnerable students. To give to the School Closure Impact Fund, visit https://www.slcef.org/school-closures.

Huge 'thank you' to One Cool Earth for partnering with us on this month's 'My Lab' challenge box! During distance learning, students can't visit their school gardens, so One Cool Earth helped us bring gardens to our 4,000 students! The projects inside this month's box include planting a micro-garden, creating a greenhouse, building and painting a watershed, composting, and nutrition. They created amazing educational videos for each project and then inspired our K-6 students on a video call live from the school the garden! We are better because of amazing partners like One Cool Earth who share our passion connecting learning to the real world!

Our teachers are working so hard to keep our kids inspired, challenged and engaged during distance learning. To show how much we appreciate them, T-Mobile is sponsoring a Teacher Appreciation Day this Saturday, 10/31 at Field Day Coffee in SLO. Teachers, come down and get recharged with FREE COFFEE and our deepest gratitude for all you do for our students!.
