I’m excited to announce that after much discussion with my wife and kids, I have decided to run for State Senate in 2020! I have missed public service since leaving the San Mateo City Council and feel like I can help contribute my experience and energy to keeping California the best state in the nation! I hope to count on your support! #LimForSenate2020. PS - Happy April First!

To those San Mateo residents who say we should obey the lawful orders of this administration, I leave you some light reading about another "lawful" order in our country's history. Our laws must be rooted in the American Constitution and our American values of equal protection and dignity for all, or they are not lawful, no matter what any President says.

Since 1968, the 101st Airborne Division has been the adopted unit of the City of San Mateo. The 101st was the Division that stopped Hitler and the Nazi's final counterattack during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II -- The "Battling Bastards of Bastogne". To honor the sacrifice and legacy of the 101st and all World War II veterans, the City of San Mateo will stand up to right-wing fascists and Nazi propaganda that rears it's ugly head anywhere in the United States of America. Fascism, hate, and intolerance have no place in our country, and all good Americans should unite against it.

As I have for the past 20+ years, I am up early on Election Day. I will get dressed, grab breakfast at my favorite breakfast place, then go drop off my absentee ballot at my polling station before heading to work. Despite the rancor and stress of this unusual election cycle, Election Day always fills me with hope that the promise of this great nation will be fulfilled for all our citizens. God Bless America whatever happens today and moving forward.

Getting a lot of concerned calls about the demolition of the Taco Bell on El Camino. Fear not lovers of late night tacos! It's only a remodel. Taco Bell will be back bigger and better than ever!

No matter what your stance on this issue, we should all agree that jeering and mocking a heartfelt plea for help is never the right answer. Shocked and saddened that my fellow neighbors stooped to this level, and even more shocked and saddened by those who try to defend it. Thank you to the many, many landlords who have come forward to denounce this behavior.

At tonight's San Mateo City Council meeting I played a heartfelt voicemail I received from a nurse who is facing tenant displacement. Landlords in the audience who I had shown every courtesy for over two hours of hearings laughed, mocked her, walked out of the meeting, and accused me of using an actress to make up the voicemail. Several landlords also mocked and derided a tenant supporter who came to tell their stories. The lack of empathy from my fellow residents was shocking and sad, and has strengthened my resolve to help those in our community threatened by the greed of heartless landlords.
