You snooze, you lose Yesterday, shortly after 2:30 am, our office investigated a carjacking incident in Acampo. The victim had been sleeping in his vehicle on Acampo Road, west of Elliott Road, when a stranger who opened the car door and pointed a shotgun at him woke him up. The suspect, described as a heavy-set Hispanic male in his 20’s, took off with the victim’s car followed by a second vehicle that the victim could not see clearly. ... Approximately 5 hours later, while patrolling in the area of Lower Sacramento Road and Jahant Road in Acampo, CHP came across the victim’s vehicle parked on the side of the road. A check of the license plate came back to a stolen vehicle reported out of our office. Salvador DeJesus Collazo, 28, was found sleeping in the driver’s seat with a loaded shotgun sitting next to him on the passenger seat. Collazo was detained and our office was notified. During a pat-down search of Collazo, he was found with methamphetamine in his pant pockets, along with the victim’s identification card, driver’s license and credit cards. Drug paraphernalia was found in the victim’s vehicle, all belonging to Collazo. Collazo was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for several felony violations, including: carjacking, possession of a stolen vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of live ammunition and for being in possession of methamphetamine. #StrongerTogether #StocktonCHP #workingtogether #SJSO2020 #dontstealcars

Another gun off our streets Yesterday, shortly after 1:00 am, Deputies Parker and Solorio encountered a reckless driver in the area of northbound Interstate 5, near Country Club Blvd. in Stockton. They initiated a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and took off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued, that led the deputies into a neighborhood off Quail Lakes and March Lane. ... The suspect was driving the wrong way at one point , so the pursuit was terminated. A short distance later, the suspect vehicle was found abandoned in the middle of the road with the driver’s door standing open. Sitting on the front seat was a loaded AR-15 style rifle with a forty round magazine, and no identification numbers. The weapon was immediately secured and a search for the driver followed, but he was not found. Investigation is still ongoing to identify the driver. If you have any information regarding this incident, please call San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office at 209-468-4400.

Last night at approximately 10:45 pm, a San Joaquin County Jail inmate escaped from the Honor Farm Facility. An officer at the jail was alerted by an alarm on one of the housing barracks doors. An emergency count was immediately done, at which time inmate Porfirio Torres Vasquez was not present. The Patrol Division was immediately notified and thorough checks were made of the Honor Farm grounds and surrounding areas, all with negative results. Porfirio Torres Vasquez is a 37-year-old, standing 5’10 and weighing 150 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. He was facing several felony charges including: burglary, being a prohibited person owning or in possession of ammunition, criminal threats, vandalism and vehicle thefts. His bail was set at $400k.
