We’re closing out chain 7 of Chain Reaction 13 with Afro-Peruvian Master Braulio Barrera!! Braulio was nominated by Pedro Rosales: I chose Braulio Barrera because he represents Afro-Peruvian Culture at its very best. Braulio Barrera is a singer, composer, and percussionist from Lima Peru.... This is a Festejon (celebration), an Afro Peruvian song entitled Cancion Negro. In this song, Barrera is doing lead vocal, harmony, and playing four Afro Peruvian instruments: cajon (wooden box), cajita (little box ), congas, and quijada (donkey jaw) Check back tomorrow as we launch a new chain with initiator Sofie Ramos! #goldencapricorn #goldencapricornanniversary #sfac #sfacgalleries #chainreaction13 #sfartists #bayareaartists #brauliobarrera

Today in Chain Reaction 13: Pedro Rosales!! Pedro was nominated by Monica Hastings Smith: I chose Pedro because he is a wonderful model of the teaching artist, deep knowledge of the roots, joy, sadness in Peruvian music, a generous and fun teacher, and Bay Area artist that connects to us to other world class artists in their genre! Pedro Rosales is a Peruvian cajon player/singer/producer/educator since 1988.... Proyecto Lando is a contemporary Afro-Peruvian band fusing the traditional with salsa and jazz elements. The band has been active since 2009, produced three cds, and has been part of many festivals such as the Ethnic Dance Festival in 2014. Pedro has selected Braulio Barrera as the next link in the chain! Check back tomorrow to see their work! #goldencapricorn #goldencapricornanniversary #sfac #sfacgalleries #chainreaction13 #sfartists #bayareaartists #pedrorosales

Today in Chain Reaction 13: Monica Hastings-Smith!! Monica was nominated by KaliMa Amilak: I chose Monica Hastings-Smith because she is an amazing storyteller, a leader for vocal expression, social justice and freedom through music and is revered by community. She has been such an inspiration to those she has come in contact with in exploring music and their confidence in their voice. Monica is an Oakland (Huichin) born teaching artist and member of local community art move...ments (Boomshake Music and SambaFunk!) that study the culture and the sounds of creative street expression. Her focus is on-the-ground, rooted, shared expressive healing in times of learning, grief, anger and celebration. Monica has selected Pedro Rosales as the next link in the chain! Check back tomorrow to see their work! #goldencapricorn #goldencapricornanniversary #sfac #sfacgalleries #chainreaction13 #sfartists #bayareaartists #monicahastingssmith
