With 29 days left in the backpack drive, we're just over halfway to the goal. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and spread the word about the drive! We're not done yet, so if you haven't given yet, there's still time to get involved. Check out our Roonga page to donate the cost of a backpack, prefilled with all the essentials for kids going back to school this fall!

Bruce has been volunteering at Samaritan House for over ten years. Three mornings each week, he collects near-expired groceries and delivers them to the kitchen, preventing food waste and feeding his community at the same time. Thank you, Bruce! : Vicky Stein

"I first heard of Samaritan House when I was a small child. I lived in an apartment complex next to headquarters and each time that I’d walk to my Karate classes, I would pass by the building. I was always interested in learning what was going on in there, so when I decided that I wanted to volunteer and participate in community service, my first stop was at Samaritan House. Giving back to my community has proven to be one of the greatest parts of the week and a great start ...to the weekend. The community I've met here is wonderful." -Sebastian, Samaritan House Volunteer and Donor Sebastian is not volunteering right now to respect the wishes of his family. Instead, he's chosen to donate what he's earned from his tutoring job. "If you really want to help your community but are unable to leave your home, I’d recommend looking online and searching for opportunities that will allow you to work remotely and contribute to your community. You may want to start fundraisers, donate to a charity, or even refer individuals who are interested in volunteering in-person to Samaritan House." Sebastian, you are an inspiration and we are truly touched by your generosity!

Hunger is on the rise, and according to San Francisco Chronicle, food insecurity has tripled in San Mateo County. Since COVID-19 began, we've been putting out an extra 100,000 meals per month to meet the overwhelming demand.
