The sermon begins at minutes 21:30 for those interested in going straight to the sermon. Like Moses, we stand looking at the promised land from afar. We can see it in our imaginations, but it often feels so far away. We have heard the oft-repeated refrain that this election is about the soul of America. If your inbox is like mine, you receive hundreds of requests for money and time to affect the outcome of the election. Those investments matter, even if the promised land they offer is farther away than they indicate. How do we stay motivated to invest in the small tasks that never seem to quite get us where we want to be? I think there is a clue in loving God with all our heart, soul mind and strength, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Join us to reflect on these important and timely matters.

Es importante en estos dias reunirnos para orar, unos por otros, por este pais donde han muerto casi 225,000 personas y millones han contratado el virus, y por el mundo entero. Nunca debemos dejar de sentir el dolor de esta pandemia. Manana seguiremos la serie de sermones sobre la responsabilidad compartida, con el tema de la inversion. Igual que Moises, estamos parados viendo la... tierra prometida desde lejos. Podemos verla en nuestras imaginaciones pero se siente lejos. Las inversiones que hacemos hacia el proyecto de Dios de justicia y Paz importan, por mas pequenas que sean. Como quedarnos motivados para seguir haciendo las pequenas tareas que nunca parecen lograr lo que queremos? Creo que Jesus nos dio una pista cuando dijo que la ley mas importante es amar a Dios con todo nuestro corazon toda nuestra alma y todo nuestra mente, amar a nuestro projimo como a nosotros mismos. Hoy vamos a reflexionar sobre la práctica espiritual del desprendimiento. Cómo podemos vivir con libertad y poder al no ser posesionados por nuestras pertenencias?

In Exodus, Moses experienced God’s glory from the backside after seeing God face-to-face for years. How could he detach from that familiar way to a different experience of God? Jesus revealed his detachment from all that the Empire offered by creatively confronting the religious leaders who had no leverage over him because he didn’t need what they offered. How can detachment from possessions, traditions, feelings and rights free us to live fully for God and for God’s reign in... the world? That is the question for this week.
