A well done piece. The greatest challenges to having a truly significant positive impact for families and communities in developing countries are at both ends of the project stream. The first is keeping people over here aware, interested and involved financially. There are so many things constantly vieing for our attention...and money. We are easily distracted. We may even feel that we’ve done our part, but out of sight, out of mind is very often the reason people... stop being involved. Efforts like this one with Matt Damon help raise awareness...and awareness can translate to involvement...and involvement translates into saved lives. The second is convincing people over there that clean, safe drinking water is critical to them, their families, neighbors, community, country - much more critical than just having a cellphone or internet. Especially - and we are speaking to our Ugandan friends - since a large part of being a successful country is investing in your neighbors and communities. Investing where you may not even personally benefit, but others in your country will benefit greatly. Safe Water RIM has an amazing clean water team in Uganda - Omega Safe Water. They have helped thousands gain access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation. The team - including Henry Jacks, Damalie Nakiwala, Patrick Ssebudde, Okumu Donato, Georgina Olivia - work hard to bring health and safety to their countrymen. They need your help to do more. They are not simply a small ministry or water business. They are - just the right - tool YOU can use to create positive, long-lasting change in the lives of many! Consider partnering with us for the first time if you have never before...renewing your partnership if you have in the past and are ready to impact the world again!

Thanks for sharing Merrie. Life can be pretty stressful and we don’t always conduct ourselves as we’d wish to. It’s a great to have loving friends who understand us...who don’t judge...who don’t condemn...but who try to help us be our better selves. Cheers!

It has been some time since we last posted on this site - especially, regarding our ongoing work in Uganda. No fear Our team - Omega Safe Water - in very much still active and working hard to bring clean drinking water and WASH education to the underserved. In addition to work they’ve been doing in the Kampala area, for the past few months - in spite of COVID-19 - the team has been working in the Kansiri area, which is about 85km north of Kampala. The villages of Kasanga, K...ansiri and Kitabula have a population of about 3,650 in 520 households and there is one primary school with about 325 students. Our original manufactury is at the Omega Healing Centre, Namasuba, Kampala which was too difficult for the team to use - transporting filters, etc. so they moved manufacturing to Kansiriso they only had to transport themselves. The team is distributing about 125 filters now, with plans for more. The clean water is so critical. Those of you reading this who live in Africa may well recognize the stock pond and stream water sources like we show here. Not clean. Not safe. Thankfully, the filters we are distributing will easily handle the drinking/cooking water needs of 1,500 people or more. The filters are great. The WASH education even better. In the past we have only conducted WASH training for the school children and end-user training in the homes when we set up the filters. Because we are now in more remote villages, the team has been able to use this to their advantage and have provided WASH education to the adults as well - with great success. As the photos show, the training was very professionaland very well received by the villagers. We are so proud of our Omega Safe Water team!

I wanted to re-post this photo separately so that our intent is not misconstrued. Our friend, Willy, took this photo. It is not a political commentary of any kind. Please don't make it one. I'm sure this little boy has no idea what this shirt says...but I'll bet that he will have the same aspirations that all little children have...and that all he needs is a bit of love, support and opportunity. We'll continue to try to do our part. Join us, won't you?

The Team recently had the opportunity to really SERVE a specific community in concert with a foreign serving teamand had an amazing time! They joined Pastor Richard Ssekyeru for an entire week as he guided a team from Athletes in Action Nederland to the village of Sekanyonyi, Uganda. AiA was there to share the Gospel, build a sports field, help in the local hospital and train youth. Our Omega Safe Water team spent the week installing 5 filters (donated by the youth of Omeg...a Healing Centre!) and giving extended End-user and WASH (water sanitation and health) training through the community. According to Team member, Patrick Ssebudde, they installed one filter in the (Sekanyonyi Health Centre), which was a great ideal for the doctors to know about (learn about) the filters; two in (Magala) Prison it was great also because we interacted with the prisoners and they told us they were not boiling their water and this brought them a smile on their faces ‘cause they were to take safe drinking water due to the filters we installedand they promised to take care of them.. The Team also installed a filter in a home and another at Sekanyonyi Secondary School. This trip greatly increased the confidence of all team members as it showed them that they can be very effective in a remote region of the country and impact many people who they had never met, all without oversight from their American lead! We are proud of their hard work and accomplishments. As ever, your prayers and support are greatly appreciated and allow us to reach into communities where the need for safe drinking water and good sanitation is so critical.

Reaching into the Countryside One of our star technicians, Henry Sebunya, recently had the privilege to join Regine Schweizer and her Chosen Generation Ministries (CGM) team on a mission outreach to Lira, Ugandaand to install three Biosand Filters as well! Lira is a small community in Northern Uganda about a 5-hour drive north from our headquarters in So. Kampala and even though it is a community of around 95,000, it is still considered to be in the bush. In addition, 20... years of terrible civil war by "Kony's rebels" left their traces on this community, as it has throughout much of Northern Uganda. A community with many needs both physical and spiritual. CGM is doing wonderful God-filled work here and we are happy to help. The Lira region continues to rebuild community and Safe Water RIM is pleased to play a part. One of the filters has been installed at CGM’s Lira outreach home and will serve both CGM servant and nearby residents. The other two filters have been installed in schools Lira Modern Primary and Amachen Complex Secondary. Our experience (and that of fellow clean water workers in Uganda) has been that students are VERY RECEPTIVE of safe drinking water from the Biosand Filters. It tastes better than most boiled water certainly better than most shallow well or pond water! Because the safe water sits inside the concrete filter box (while the bugs are doing their part to sanitize the water!), it tends to be cooler and crisp pleasant to drink. So the young people drink more than they would otherwise. ANDas a result, they are more hydratedand concentrate betterand learn more! Armed with an understanding of these benefits, Primary and Secondary schools are primary targets for Safe Water RIM. They have become primary CAPs Community Access Points for us. We currently serve around 50 schools and some 6,000+ students. As ever, you can join with us. Help to provide safe drinking water and sanitation/hygiene training to families and children in Uganda and elsewhere in Africa. Continued prayer for the Team and their "customers" is first and foremost. Your financial support is greatly needed as well if we are to reach deeper and deeper into communities in great need. As ever, you can donate through our website, safewaterrim.org, as well as directly through Desert Christian Center, Ridgecrest, CA.
