Volunteer Spotlight! Angelina Nguyen is a Junior in Northern California Girl Scout Troop 61679. This year she decided to it was time to take her Junior Journey towards her Bronze Award. In April she contacted Sacred Heart Community Service to get some information on how she could best help our community as a whole. We want to thank Angelina for her hard work and commitment to our community and congratulate her on achieving her Bonze Award Pin, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn! Drop some love down for Angelina below!
Black History Spotlight: It’s Black History Month again, a time we use to honor the achievements, resilience, and excellence of Black people throughout history. Every February, we recognize the contributions of Black people, we celebrate their ingenuity and perseverance. This month, I would like to put a spotlight on a few Black women who have had and continue to have an impact on American history. These women might not be household names like Harriet Tubman or Rosa Parks, b...ut they are heroes in their own right. Here are five Black women you probably don’t know a lot about. Shirley Chisholm made history in 1968 when she became the first Black woman elected to US Congress. Despite facing what she called a double handicap of being Black and being a woman, she served in Congress for 15 years, fighting for the rights of women and people of color, for alleviations from poverty, and against the Vietnam war. #bhm #communityunited

This morning San Jose residents, joined by tenants from throughout the Bay Area, formed a human blockade that successfully shut down eviction court at the Santa Clara County Superior Courthouse. Every week, 25 to 30 eviction proceedings occur at the Santa Clara County Superior Court. The Bay Area Regional Tenant Organizing Network (RTO), a coalition of 30+ tenant groups throughout the Bay Area including Sacred Heart Community Service, organized the eviction blockade to stop ...evictions scheduled for hearings, urge Presiding Judge Deborah Ryan to halt all eviction proceedings during the pandemic, and call on Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith to immediately stop enforcing lock-outs during the pandemic. We salute the hard work these organizers put in to help keep our community safe! #communityunited
