Yesterday, Anne picked up her new-to-her bike as the winner of our membership drive. She decided to join SABA (@sacbike)because her dad had been hit by a cager. We chatted about recovering from big crashes while Robert put the finishing touches on the bike. Thanks Anne for joining SABA & many thanks to the Sacramento Bike Kitchen for the awesome Univega! #newbikeday #sacbikelove #sacbike #joinsacbike #sacbikekitchen

The recent events in our nation regarding the Black Lives Matter movement have awakened many to the inequities that BIPOC face in their lives each and every day. We, at SABA are committed to raising the voices of residents of historically marginalized communities and communities of color as we advocate for safe streets and in particular in transportation planning, land use, and bicycle advocacy. We know that our first step to being part of the solution is listening. Listening... to those who are frequently overlooked and ignored. We need to hear the stories of those who have struggled, be that on or off of bicycles as they go about their lives in and around Sacramento. On Friday, September 11th at 7:00 PM, please join SABA Board President Isaac Gonzalez, and SABA's Executive Director, Deb Banks on Facebook LIVE as we start this process and ask for your help as we proceed.

We had a big WIN for everyone who believes that our city is best experienced by biking and walking. Tuesday night, the Mayor & City Council voted to implement a Slow and Active Streets program for Sacramento. This is among a set of strategies to launch that are outlined in the Mayors’ Commission for Climate Change reports. We thank all of you who sent letters to the Council or commented during the meeting. Advocacy in Action! For more on this, listen into Wednesday’s Insight on Cap Radio with Randol White. The Mayor comes on near the end, but the entire show is worth your time. https://www.capradio.org/news/insight/
